It can be tough with with players from Scotland

Kygo a prime example, smashed his time at Celctic, rubbish since.

Equally, Wanyama, Van Dijk, Larson made the move and were superb.

No idea if he's good enough but he's been class for Celtic no doubt

I’m really shocked by the huge positivity towards the potential signing- yes, he has a strong work rate and is absolutely rapid, but he’s not even a sure pick in the bhoys starting eleven and has some glaring deficiencies in his game.

Depends on the fee.

If it’s reasonable with a year left on his deal I’d have him in the squad for his work rate/Pressing alone. We need as many athletes in this squad as we can and he is an elite one.

You are right though that he has some flaws in his game but I do think he’s would be handy addition for the squad. Does have a habit of popping up with big goals as well and I think his movement would translate ok.

wow - i have repeatedly been calling for us to target him all summer on social media.
a couple of comments from sky commentators in later part of the scottish season "I have never seen a player chase a ball as hard as Maeda does" and "if you think he is fast on the tv, wait until you see him in real life" a natural goalscorer, and very versatile, left wing, 10 or upront.

Even earlier today i was banging the drum on signing him on twitter - would be my favourite signing of the summer as i am a huge fan

1 in 3 in Scotland isn't getting my natural goalscorer juices flowing.

When I have watched Celtic ok on Sky he always features and has looked good I tend to agree with those who think he would be a good signing.

Yeah, he absolutely isn’t a natural goalscorer.

I’m a Celtic fan, seen Daizen Maeda play countless times- he’s a perfectly fine SPL player, but that’s just it, he’s fine at that level. I can’t believe people think he’s a potential premier league player.

I think even if he was on a free, I’d have reservations.

I think in tough away games where we are unlikely to have much ball I’d be more than happy to have a player who can do the out of possesion work of 2 players. I wouldn’t want him starting every week though.

He's more greyer than Cole Skuse.

Make sure you check his birth certificate, Mark.

Yes.

Unbelievable workrate and fairly decent goalscorer.

Was told about this the same day as Morita, presumed it was a Treacle/Paz type scenario but not sure that makes sense. Could easily end up with just him or both.

Interesting link here too. Would be beneficial having Emersonn already in presumably

As someone who has watched him many many times, I can promise you he is absolutely not an upgrade on Philogene- especially on the technical front.

Am I picking up from you that he is an Azon type, hard worker at closing down & chasing lost causes, but his actual finishing will cause us to turn against him after a few bad & costly misses?

In a way? He’s a weird little player, I wouldn’t say he’s like Azon as he is actually quite slight and lacking in strength- but he is an unbelievably hard worker, very fast and he can be quite unauthodox.

Finishing wise, he’s OK- but he actually struggles to be in the right positions to score, as he’s zooming around here there and everywhere!

His technical ability is where I feel his clearest inadequacy is, alongside physical strength- I saw someone in this thread claim he’s an upgrade on Philogene, which in footballing terms, couldn’t be further from the truth- not a great passer or striker of the ball and although VERY fast, his dribbling is pretty average (in the SPL)

Pace is something we massively lack though tbf. With Fatawu and Maeda that would upgrade that massively.

Left winger, 2nd striker, decent strike rate, scored at the World Cup. 28 with good experience. Guess he's the JP replacement. Two Japan players better than one.

Not sure there is much Sushi to be had in Suffolk?

I have also watched him many times for yokohama, Japan and celtic and I can promise you he is a better all round player than phillogene. Maybe he won't whack one in from 30 yards. But all round game much better

Yes please, from what I’ve seen, both club and country.

Japan such a good nation for producing players, are generally such a good blend of talent and work rate.

Wouldn’t mind us looking at any of: Reo Hatate, Taki Minamino, Hiroki Ito, Ayase Ueda.

Such a good talent pool to choose from for the price point we’re in.

Now, Reo Hatate *is* a Celtic/Japan player with Premier League potential IMO.

Not really, just don't overly rate phillogene who I think is a top end championship player, and think Meada has more about his all round game
