| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs 12:17 - Jul 21 with 4585 views | jasondozzell | A lot of United supporters on twitter talking about how season tickets being removed for smallest thing. It's really worrying how the US sports model doesn't care for loyal supporters who have travelled for years. It's already going on here with price hikes. But if you turn football into an anaemic concert/Harry Potter World type experience then it will lose the thing that makes it so exciting. Really don't think it's great that we've got so much American money now in the game, even if we have benefited. You watch the Keegan footage and it's like another world. | | | | |

In orient terms, you can use a pdf or static qr code, but I'm pretty sure that at Wembley for playoffs, they had a system which got round that somehow.

Yes and indeed the cash strapped, deathtrap grounds that had a tendency to kill spectators, falling on people, crushing them, or burning down. But the atmosphere was better…

If it's anything like the QR code system used on the buses up here in Norwich, the code updates periodically, so is essentially live. My best guess is that it contains all the standard data as a fixed element, but other bits update in line with the date/time. If you screenshot the QR code at a particular time on a particular day, it won't match up with what the scanner is expecting later down the line.

| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 17:19 - Jul 21 with 879 views | Mark | The success of the club is fantastic and we have enjoyed wonderful years recently. I love all that, but also dislike the general direction of football at the top level and can quite imagine a world where I become a 'legacy' fan for the reasons set out in this thread. Whether I am replaced by tourists, Tiktokers, media boxes or LED adverts perhaps remains to be seen. I hope it doesn't happen and that we stay a community club, there for the people of Ipswich. | | | |

Ah the romance of football... The sight of floodlight pylons, smell of fried onions, the sound of the turnstiles clicking, the roar of the terrace, the live data on your QR code being refreshed...😬😅

| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 12:45 - Jul 21 by Illinoisblue | A general observation on Americans going to sporting events; they see it exactly as that, an event, a thing to do. Could be a movie, the theatre, a theme park, or a game. It’s something to do. Largely because of the franchise system, folks aren’t as invested in a team the way fans in Europe are. I’ve seen fans at baseball sit and talk and eat and drink for three hours straight. They may or may not know who’s playing. This is something of an over simplification, and there are plenty of diehard fans in america. Bit have no doubt American owners see clubs as an entertainment vehicle to make money. |
I just listened to an interesting Athletic podcast on the next stages in the US soccer league, and it was good except they kept referring to the "product" on the pitch, meaning the quality of the actual football. It's very telling.

| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 21:24 - Jul 21 with 720 views | TresBonne | It's really sad isn't it. Football clubs in the UK are a large part of society, communities, towns and we are so lucky to have such a strong pyramid. They are a massive escape for people. Personally I have made lifelong friends following ITFC, people that I probably would never have spoken to if we didn't support the same club. To think that could get taken away and replaced for greed is a horrifying thought. | |

| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 22:09 - Jul 21 with 653 views | Kievthegreat | Only get to a few games a year, so will now be competing with Tourists, although a winter midweek game is a great way to avoid them. However I'm always a bit torn. I don't want real fans to miss out on games. However I know that if I'm abroad, I'd like to take in a local sports game. Or when Baseball is in London, I'll go for a day. I know others will watch NFL Games in London and watch a basketball game in whatever city they're visiting. Always feel hypocritical that I'd want to keep MY sport purely for real fans, but I want to be a tourist elsewhere. | | | |
| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 22:38 - Jul 21 with 612 views | darkhorse28 | I’d ban most Utd fans I’ve met who’ve travelled for a million years. Not sure how long you’ve supported is instructive of whether you’re a decent person and fan!! The ones I met in Ipswich last time, I’d happily ban, entitled doesn’t even come close. Agree about the move toward only revenue, we’ve done it with the memberships and season ticket wait list, if you can’t get a ticket, you need five million years memberships, that’s not fair or reasonable - just money. But I’m not convinced this is that.., loads of b$llocks is more likely, entitled and thinking he can punt tickets to who he wants for as much as he wants is equally as likely. Why shouldn’t the club stop that - talks about bleeding red, sells his ticket to someone from South Korea for three times face value - fans are at it as much as clubs, especially at Utd under this regime, they think they’re always the victim - not buying it, unlike the tourists his ‘mum’ accidentally sold tickets to! Don’t think they’re banning fans for giggles even at Utd As for tourists .., I’ve never seen so many Koreans in one place when we played Spurs - we all take the money .., and we none of us villain when we sign 5 in a week, or Cunha etc etc Guess we can’t have our cake and eat it. Money and TV and richest league in the world, with the demands that brings, or the good old days of owned by Fred the butcher, local players and more empty seats than a Madonna half time show. I’ll be honest - I’d take the old days - but I can see why 99% won’t. I could take as much satisfaction from David Hill for £100k from Scunthorpe as a Brazilian striker - but I’m weird. | | | |
| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 08:13 - Jul 22 with 486 views | franz_tyson | So real fans are getting replaced by plastic fans. For me, I think one solution is to reinvigorate the European Super League and clubs like Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool can f#ck off. Go and play Real Madrid and Barcelona and any Saudi sides.... and take your fans with you. Or take the fake, glory hunting, selfie-taking fans with you. We can make a new Division One from what's left of the Premier League and the Championship. Less quality at the top end and less money, floating around, but should be more competitive. And more honest and gritty. The PL is pretty much a global league anyway and not an english league. It's just the clubs are only based in England with foreign owners, foreign players and foreign coaches. | | | |

| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 15:00 - Jul 21 by Mullet | The clubs will argue though that there are hundreds of people who have kept/ inherited season tickets and simply use them as a source of income. I didn’t hear a single Scouse accent walking into Anfield that wasn’t a staff member etc. on the train home people from much further away than me all there as home fans. Clubs are going to want to monetise that and take all the cash. Thats why people hoarding away points etc and sharing accounts around are going to bring it in at Ipswich. It’s the perfect excuse for the club. |
Good point, last time we where in the EPL, came out of Lime St. got asked by 4 guys in Liverpool shirts where the ground was, looked a bit confused when I said get a taxi to Portman Road.

Hardcore support is 20k to 23k, glory hunters 6k As long as capicity is increased, then long term fans will find a way of going. But you will need a season ticket, on DD so makes it affordable, to guarantee.
| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 09:52 - Jul 22 with 390 views | bluesimon | I always love threads on this. On tourists - I think anyone can go to a game, couldn't really care if they're from around here or not. So long as they have a good time, take it all in and don't boo the team. I don't think posting a picture at the game on instagram is the worst thing anyone could either. On influencers - I quite like watching match day blogs on YouTube to see what people think and what they've seen etc - it's probably quite a good hobby, getting people out and about, experiencing different cultures and places. On the Utd fan - No doubt all the Utd fan needed to do was to sell the ticket, at face value, through official channels and none of this would have happened. Probably just out of own greed they wanted more for it, and now they're moaning. On our ST holders - All our ST holders should also be using the resale platform when they can't go and not gatekeeping their own little kingdom. | | | |

The dream American model would be no STs and all tickets sold through Ticketmaster I fear

Hardcore is surely 14000 or so. I mean that's how many there were during darkest Evans days. And only 8000 ST holders in COVID season.

Very few teams actually make any profit from the fans through the turnstiles (possibly Spurs excepted) - Bournemouth I think acknowledged their stadium expansion won’t make them more profitable. TV money is the big earner (mainly as the PL is sold internationally), therefore the Americans will likely only realise a real ROI when they flip the club (I.e. increased asset value). What comes next is the part that worries me, e.g Middle Eastern oil baron, PE etc.
| 'Legacy' fans being chased out of clubs on 19:21 - Jul 22 with 199 views | SheffordBlue | This is probably the flip side of the argument on accounts with suspicious ticket activity being frozen until investigated. Touting is big business for some clubs. https://fcbusiness.co.uk/news/ | |
