It’s a fair old production line they’ve got there. They’ve got James Beadle (England u21 keeper) who’s just signed up for a second season long loan at Birmingham. They’ll probably sell him for big money next summer. That’s a lot of money coming in for players who’ve barely played for them. | | | |

We have been similar money on "Championship level" players over the past two years, it seems around £20mil is the value for a player of that level. If he keeps them up and it rises to £30million that will have been worth it, if you are less worried about resale value in the long run.
We've signed two goalkeepers for £8.5 and £3.4million respectively, which is small beans really, but neither of them have any track record in England, let alone the Premier League, so I would say their value is fair. |  |

That’s a lot of money for a keeper who has only played in the Championship. Don’t think he’s ever played in the premier league. Yes a good keeper but not one with experience. And yes I know we have brought a keeper who also hasn’t played in the top English league but has played in the Champions League and was less than half the price. Plus I would say as our back line is also considerably stronger than Coventry’s.
I think the Coventry fans may have gone into melt down if they hadn’t brought Rushworth. [Post edited 28 Jul 22:45]

He's a fantastic keeper. I genuinely think he could be the successor to Pickfordf for England. Best keeper in the champ by a mile last season.
The fee is probably about right. I'd be a lot happier with that then £40 mil for Trafford. Rushworth is the best keeper IMO.
I think Rushworth will be worth double by the end of the season so the bit where Cov could.be getting stuffed is the buy back. If that is only in the £40 mil range then I'd be really annoyed.
I'm happy with our keeper business though and Cov already had Rushworth so a good chunk of their budget on a keeper they already had. | |

Valid point he doesn’t make Coventry stronger than last season, but not singing him would certainly have weakened them.

He's a great keeper, with real potential, but I don't think he's at the level of Trafford yet.
Rushworth is older (25), smaller, and has never played in the Premier League, he's had 2 good seasons in the Championship. Trafford has Prem experience, England experience, and had it not been for the sudden availability of one of the World's best keepers, would be Manchester City's number 1, a position he was picked by one of the greatest managers in Premier League history to fill.

I don't think it's bad value at all. I'd go as far as saying it's a good deal for an English player, however you know Tony Bloom has not held out this long for them to get a good deal. He's got his part of the deal in the sell on clause and the buy back clause.

He was by some considerable distance the best keeper in the Championship last year and according to most Cov fans responsible for them securing at least 15 more points then they would have had otherwise.
That couple (guy and gal) who have a premier league and championship predictions channel on YouTube are Coventry fans and they believe he alone will be worth 3-4 places in the league this coming season. I think they're in for the same rude awakening we had two seasons ago; but his value to the club and fanbase is worth more than just his performances on the pitch - he's an absolute hero there. But that in itself probably saw them paying $4-5m more than he would have cost on the open market.
Any Town fan who wants to argue that Walton be given a chance over Scherpen are effectively saying they're happy for us to play a significantly inferior keeper than one of our closest rivals next season. If Scherpen is near to the calibre of Rushworth (and only time will tell) then we've got ourselves an absolute steal. | | | |

Probably more like 15-20% of their budget.
I think it is a hell of a lot of money personally. Decent keeper but not kicked a ball in the PL and isn't particularly young. A lot of talk he was the best keeper in the Champ 'by a mile' last year. One more clean sheet than Walton in 8 more games and a 1% higher save percentage. | | | |
