Stoke prepared to pay £10m for George Hirst… 21:12 - Aug 4 with 7820 viewsGary_Knows

… according to Alan Nixon.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

And they'd be getting a bargain.

Top, top player.

I'd be keeping him.

Looked good in the PL when he got a chance.

Get a £30m replacement and take it.

George has done well for us, and wouldn't let us down as a 2nd or 3rd striker, but truth is that we need better if we're serious about trying to stay up.

I’d be reluctant to have a complete squad overhaul, and getting in strikers who are significantly better than him isn’t easy.

We need one even if he stays. Can we really find two?

£10m? I'll start the car!

Unless anyone from Stoke is reading this. In which case, no, far too low!

Akpom is looking an option for that 3rd choice and Hirst might actually want to play games.

10m would be a very good fee.

Behave. He was well off it for rhe vast majority of last season. If we got £10m for him that would be fantastic business.

To be clear I'm not one of his haters and he's done well in the past but at times last season he looked like he'd borrowed Connor Sammon's famous ball repellant shin pads.

Like Broadhead last year it’s probably £7.5 million with add ons taking it to £10 million.

Still a very good deal.

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

I'm not against Akpom getting another chance, but are we all assuming he's suddenly ahead of Hirst based on one pre season game?

Loan to buy deal which doesn’t sound as good as £10mil permanent deal now!

Great servant for the club but feels like a good deal, providing it’s not heavily incentive based or a loan with an obligation. Would guess 7 + 3 in add ons.

Am I right in saying the 10 million for Hirst would allow us to sign two 25 million players this summer in accounting terms?

Hirst would almost represent pure profit and I think I’m right in saying that a £25 million signing would be amortised at £5 million per year on a 5 year deal (not sure if scr has changed this)

EADT were claiming that Hirst would only be leaving on a perm with money now. No loan to buys so will be interesting to see if that happens.

Not specifically but I did say he might not want to be third choice which seems the most likely outcome.

That would be £8 mil ish of pure profit which would allow a big fee amortised over a 4-5 year contract (e.g. £32-40 mil).

The emergence of Akpom as an effective 9 again makes it very tempting as sad as I would be!

You have to think that would be a good deal for all.

I hope people show a bit of respect to him. Let's leave off the comments about driving him there etc.

Maybe should have been akpom over hirst last season. KM just didnt want to play him as a 9.

We are incredibly thankful for his time here.. but its done imo. Was always a fav of mine but that prem season imo was the last time we saw hirst at his best.

Im.not saying akpom should stay either. But if its between them then its Akpom.

I’ll drive him there myself. Looks to me Akpom has the third choice nailed down. Clearly if we are going to survive we need to sign a top class striker.

All this. He won us a lot of points in his first two seasons with us. If he goes, it should be with him being a Town legend

I think it’s more a consequence of what we paid for Akpom, and ability to move them on at a profit.

Let’s be honest, neither are premier league forwards and neither are likely to be worth more than they are today. Selling Hirst would net us a decent chunk of profit, Akpom wouldn’t. I don’t think there’s a lot to choose between them as a 3rd choice option so I can see the financial sense of moving Hirst on.

A key part of our back to back promotions and scored some lovely goals. I’d not be surprised at a £10m bid for THAT Hirsty. I am surprised his value has held up and someone would pay that now. Where we and he are now probably makes that a good deal for him and us.
