Violence and protests in Thetford for the last couple of nights - some of the quotes from locals in the first article are beyond the pale.

And then you've got the county's new Deform PCC refusing to engage with the local press, accusing them of bias.

What is this 'Conservative Party' of which you speak?

Absolutely. They stopped being Conservative at all and hence they paid the price at the ballot box.

The completely destroyed the opportunities of 2015 and 2019.

Thetford does have form. There were protests a few years ago targeting Portuguese immigrants.

Thetford Golf Club is a cracking heathland course, though. One of my favourites & always been welcoming to visitors.

Absolutely disgusted tbh.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a counter protest organised to chase the toothless fascists off of our streets.

Unfortunately, the female police officer who was bitten can confirm that at least some of the scum in question have teeth.

I can never understand attacking the police. Incredibly odd behaviour.

Because the right wing narrative is that the police are now the enemy. Two tier policing and all that.

I think you'll find im culturally allowed to use the word Pikey.

Im quite happy to describe myself as a Pikey (the term horrifies many of my parents generation)

I can also use the word Tinker, Knacker, Gypo etc

You using any of these terms may be quite insulting. For me and my culture it's about ownership of the words that have been used to contain and pigeonhole us for generations

Each to their own but I can’t really see how ownership of certain words limits or desensitises their meaning.

It’s because they (the rioters) are scum.

Think it was in Southport where a good percentage of those arrested and charged had previous convictions for domestic violence- and they are the ones who say that they are protecting women and children.

Violence is never the answer.

But as a parent I wouldn't want them living in my neighborhood. I picked an area to live in because it's safe for children, and a family environment. Nothing is more important than the safety of your own.

I'd like to think if they care about their neighborhood and safety of others so much that they'll be out protesting, that they'd be ok people to live near.

That said, you never know do you

why did we have football hooliganism for decades? tragically, there are people who just enjoy violence, specially as part of gang, and seek out opportunities for it. things like this have as much to do with it being a sunny summer evening, and beers having been consumed, as they do anything political. and the benefit in attacking the police is that they are very unlikely to pull a knife and the risk of getting hurt in attacking them is low.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

You do know - they are attacking the police, and if the police weren’t in the way, they’ll be dragging innocent people out of their homes. Pure scum.

I have no idea what's meant to be done with such low-lives, what with the prisons being full. And yes maybe rehabilitation would be better than prison, but do these people really want to learn anything? It just blows my mind they think they're the righteous ones, when they're actually an absolute menace to decent people.

Those people are never going to be able to express themselves or rationalise things in the way you do though. As you journey through life, there's always a proportion of people like that.

And if you send them to prison, chances are you just radicalise them further, and turn them into martyrs for the cause.

Look at how that vile woman who advocated setting fire to asylum hotels has 'developed' since her spell at His Majesty's pleasure.

Be nice to just give them all an island they call all go live on together and decorste with flags or whatever floats their boat.

The issue with doing that is they come back in 100 years and thrash us at cricket

Looks like Jon has just discovered HMOs.

I got the same as a student in my HMO, but you don't see the Express harping on about white British students getting given free Asda Basics cutlery, made out of the softest metal known to man.
