| Places you have visited, or would like to after seeing it in a movie orTV show? 20:34 - Aug 9 with 5168 views | Yaffle | Having just binge-watched Big Little Lies on Now TV (which we really enjoyed), I have added Northern California to my list of must-visit places to get to. I had no idea it was just so beautiful. I also heard someone on the news this afternoon describe it as 'objectively the most beautiful place on earth'. It got me wondering, what places have people seen in a film or TV show, and it has sparked the idea to visit? What show/film was it, what was the location, and have you been yet? | | | | |

It is so beautiful along the coast road. But be prepared for thousands of other tourists doing the same thing!

Piz Gloria & Furka pass in Switzerland, from On her majesty's secret service and Goldfinger. Dived on the set of the sunken Vulcan bomber from Thunderball as well as the boat sunk in never say never again. Also been to Nassau used in a few films and Rock point which was Emilio Largo's house in Thunderball. Last year the wife and I stayed in the Munich olympics athletes park, which along with the BMW factory next door was used in Rollerball.

Got chatting to one of the guys who works there who was there for the filming. It was mostly done late at night. Oh and the staircase that Julia Roberts walks down is no longer there. Friends - Went to Ceasers palace and MGM where "the one in Vegas" was filmed Beverley hills - i actually went to Zip code 90210. Its full of palm trees. Oh and i stood outside the city hall where beverly hills cop was filmed. The coolest one - i went to Fox plaza... otherwise known as "Nakatomi Plaza" - which was just a tick in my bucket list. if you dont know what Nakatomi Plaza is - we have no business being friends. Santa Monica - the Pier in GTA V is modelled after it. its very very accurate. in this country. i did go to Clarksons farm. its very small and full of people. i bought some overpriced goods. Edit - i actually forgot a couple from the list from my recent trip ^ * Hells Kitchen USA - they let me film the kitchen... which was kinda cool * i stood outside the apartment where Julia Roberts stopped being a prostitute in "Pretty woman" (Hollywood) [Post edited 10 Aug 14:32]

The place is absolutely stunning. A beautiful part of the world |
Ah but they filmed it on both west and east coasts so you only saw one part not the whole

You must have been to the Nene Valley railway then ? I know Peterborough doesn't sound as exotic a Bond location but alot of the areas they filmed the train scenes for Octopussy have barely changed since 84. They did Goldeneye there too but that was north of Wansford i think and not as easy to see the resemblance from film to reality.

Ireland’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to go. https://www.freeview.co.uk/tv- Edit: It was pretty disappointing! [Post edited 11 Aug 10:20]

Yes I have been to the Nene valley railway. You would never know it wasn't Germany in the film. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Places you have visited, or would like to after seeing it in a movie orTV show? on 11:07 - Aug 10 by longtimefan | My parents took our family to Portmeirion, where the Prisoner was filmed, while on holiday in North Wales in the mid '70s. It was a bit disappointing at the time as it had been allowed to fall into quite a state of disrepair. It's been thoroughly revamped since. |
Similarly remember being taken to Holmfirth, of "Last of the summer wine" fame, while on holiday in Yorkshire. [Post edited 10 Aug 14:11]

That bridge is stunning! And those opening credits introduced me to the music of Michael Kiwanuka; but that's a whole different thread!

| Places you have visited, or would like to after seeing it in a movie orTV show? on 10:14 - Aug 10 by Churchman | I think it’s had a lot of work on it since then and the museum aspects of it are very good. They’ve got the replica glider in the roof and show a chunk of it (the documentary made about it some years ago). Fascinating place and I couldn’t help replaying the 1970s tv programme theme tune in my head throughout the visit and beyond! It was interesting to get to. Train and buses from Leipzig. It really is in the middle of nowhere. Great little adventure day out though. [Post edited 10 Aug 13:13]

| Places you have visited, or would like to after seeing it in a movie orTV show? on 22:06 - Aug 9 by Whos_blue | Every series of race across the world inspires me to want to go to most of the locations. In the wider world I've been to Angkor in Cambodia where Tomb Raider was filmed, though in truth I hadn't really seen the film and it wasn't my driver for going! Closer to home, many moons ago I set off on a pilgrimage to Brighton after watching Quadrophenia. [Post edited 9 Aug 22:08]

Race Across the World is dangerous. China is the latest place it’s given me an itch for. I’ve gone over the border into China by about 50m, but that doesn’t count. Other than that, Mongolia & Tibet (yes, I know it’s technically China) and then probably the ‘stans. I’m a bit of an Asia nut.

| Places you have visited, or would like to after seeing it in a movie orTV show? on 09:04 - Aug 10 by DJR | Not a film but a book. Having read Dracula by Bram Stoker, I visited Bran Castle in Romania in the early 80s when Romania was still communist. It was reputed to be the home of Vlad the Impaler on whom Dracula is based. The funny thing was that the Romanians at the castle played down the connection with Vlad the Impaler because they thought it reflected badly on the country, when in England such a connection would have been milked for all it was worth in order to boost tourism. I also ate in a restaurant situated in a building which Vlad the Impaler's dad had occupied, according to the plaque above it. [Post edited 10 Aug 10:20]

I'm misremembering. It was the building where Vlad Dracul himself was born. And it's still a restaurant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ https://www.casavladdracul.ro/ All their steaks (stakes?) are rare. [Post edited 11 Aug 13:24]

No, i saw them though. and got a video of them pootling around. theyre bloody weird to look at - the only way i can describe them is "box-shaped shrivelled volkwagon camper vans" - with 4 black round things on each corner and the roof. Xoxo have got a free trial running in LV - so you can go on them for free - i think that ends this week though. im a bit of a control freak - if im gonna die in a car i dont want it to say "killed by Johnny 5" on my headstone. tbf they seemed to be doing alright though. saw load of those tesla cybertrucks as well. they're also very odd looking. I've been to Alcatraz. It's pretty interesting, very busy. You have to book, you can't just turn up. I also did an Escape from Alcatraz swim/ run. Start at the island, swim to the wharf, run to the Golden gate bridge and back to the wharf. You have to be a pretty good swimmer as they time the swim around the tides, go too slow and you risk ending up getting swept out to sea! ( Actually just plucked onto a jet ski by a lifeguard and deposited in the shore) Northern California is just Scotland with sun. If you can do the highlands and island in THE day every year when it isn't raining, it's pretty much the same thing [Post edited 10 Aug 16:50]
