Vic Exequiel Palacios to Ipswich Town? Exequiel Palacios and Malik Tillman were actually planned as options in the eighth position. However, Tillman recently made his request for a change public. According to information from this editorial team, Palacios has now clearly formulated his request for a change internally. The Argentinian is even said to have lowered his financial demands for a transfer. The 27-year-old can now imagine a transfer to the interested Premier League newcomer Ipswich Town. However, the transfer fee offered so far, around 20 million euros, is significantly below Leverkusen's expectations. Bayer 04 considers around 35 million euros to be a market-based price.

| Palacios "now envisions" a move to Ipswich on 20:27 - Aug 14 by RetroBlue | Its hard to know who has actuslly said what in social media though. Only a few days ago it was being said a move to Ipswich was beneath him ( dont know who said it) and that he was wanting a more high profile PL because it was felt that was his level.... fast forward a week ( or two?) No other PL clubs appear to be showing any interest and lo and behold, Town is now somewhere hed like to come? I Thought I saw somewhere hes not played much domestic football for a couple of seasons? So maybe has injury problems? Yes they happen but do we want to pay out a big fee on a player who hadn't played much? It reminds me a little of Kalvin Phillips . Pedigree never in doubt, but rarely plays. Hes now gone on lian to yet another club... itll be interesting to see how much he plays this season! . Im just suggesting we need to be careful because we cant afford to waste the transfer kitty can we. |
Why not just find out about things you don't know before having an opinion?

That's not what I am saying. I understand there are rumours and things. But you came on and said "I heard he was injured all the time" and then made opinions based on that, which is a very easily fact-checkable thing. I mean, it just seems odd to shoot from the hip based on vibes when facts are there for free.

Right ok.... what is your opinion of thus? This is why I commented the way I did about his apparent lack of appearances . No offence intended by my postcearluer brw ..ok I saw thus posted elsewhere....( not by me) I'm not so keen on him after hearing he has had alot of injury issues, we don't need another Jens Cajuste etc. Look at this: https://fbref.com/en/players/e Seems to only manage 10-20 starts most seasons, that is a real worry.

Bundesliga is only 34 league games, so it's not so bad. Last season he had an adductor injury that saw him miss September to January (15/34 league games). 2024-25 he missed 3 games at the beginning of the season with a knee injury, one further one in April with a niggle, was available for 30/34 league fixtures, plus 10/10 CL games and 4/5 DFB Pokal Cup games. 2023-24 he missed 6 games with a muscle injury, was available for 28/34 league, 11/12 Europa League and 5/6 cup games 2022-23 he had two muscle injuries, costing him 5 games in the Autumn and 3 games in the spring, was available for 26/34 league, 2/6 CL, 7/8 Europa, 1/1 cup Before last season, he was getting 1 minor injury per season, more or less, but was available for 124/150 fixtures. So certainly not a Luke Chambers type who's literally always available but I say less injury prone than, for e.g., Wes Burns. [Post edited 14 Aug 22:24]

Thanks for the depressing news! Seems a little bit pointless all round, to be honest. I just hope we are in for a midfielder of his style, if not quite his level. [Post edited 14 Aug 23:51]

Why would we do that, utterly pointless and utterly out of character with how we have gone about other transfer business. Unless its a smokescreen for our Rodri bid.

Phil, do you sense this is ultimately not affordable for us as a total package and could scupper other areas we need to prioritise such as an experienced goalscoring no 9? If it is, then totally understandable the club goes no further and fans would have to understand that. I struggle to understand taking a flyer, that is pointless as we would have known about salary demands etc. We can't ignore the X factor that Xhaka had for Sunderland last season (excuse the pun) , Palacios could have this and just add some additional doubt in the oppositions mind about playing Ipswich.

His injury record across his career is posted quite near the top of his thread. It's also worth noting that Argentina considered him fit enough, after his most recent Bundesliga season, to give him a squad place at the World.Cup, and that he played a full 90 minutes.

Maybe we put in the offer to get a response as to what the asking fee would be. We got it, I think it's worth a punt of £25k and another 3 - 5 of add on's. He is not that old, over 4 years that's not so bad. After this, Ensico and his young mate. We can get a couple of high end loans to fill the remaining gaps.

Its always a gamble buying players. We obviously do our checks on players, but ultimately with any purchase theres an element of luck re injuries. I suppose thst becomes much more important to minimise that gamble now we are forking out such high prices. I get the feeling Town are are sitting tight atm and playing the waiting game for this player. Or, as is often the case l, waiting for several other moves to happen in the background before maybe going bavk im again. But I seriously doubt we will be paying the amount they are asking for. You have wonder why no other PL club is looking at him.....or are they?

No other Premier League teams looked at Enciso or Maeda, it doesn’t always mean they are bad players. [Post edited 15 Aug 9:51]

I get going lower end but that was ridiculously low though. We don't want to get a reputation for stupid bids and unsettling players as this could lead to clubs not wanting to deal with us. The loan spots is a good point, hopefully we can use them as you say to fill vital slots.
