| Palacios incoming on 08:06 - Aug 18 with 6660 views | portmanking | This is all too much for my brain to compute. If we end the window with Embolo and Palacios, with some decent left-sided defensive cover on loan, I'd say that's at least a 9/10 transfer window. You look at the potential starting XI and compare it with the one that faced Liverpool 2 years ago... Wow, fair f00ks Ashton and Mick Court. | | | |

| Palacios incoming on 08:11 - Aug 18 by portmanking | Re. flushing out interest - it feels like we may be beyond that point now. No other clubs being mentioned for his signature by any journalist. I imagine Palacios' agent feels like it's a win-win move... star for us this season and then a big 6 club probably comes calling next summer and we make a £10-£15m profit on him. And we establish ourselves as a PL club. Could be as transformative as Xhaka, this lad. [Post edited 18 Aug 8:12]

You could well be right, I'm just trying to not get my hopes too high!
| Palacios incoming on 08:15 - Aug 18 with 6262 views | Devereuxxx | I'll be more convinced if I see a proper journalist (Ornstein et al) share updates rather than this paid shill. Would be an incredible signing - little worried about how much of an impact it would have on our wages structure etc - but a definite needle mover nonetheless. Would assume we'll then be exploring the loan market for a ST and CB as surely our money pit is running dry. | | | |

Sod the wage structure. Every player in our squad gets a hefty wedge these days. I don't think anyone in our squad could deny a World Cup winner being our top earner.

Also, I get the feeling that prospective signings might well be feeling that we have real momentum in terms of squad building and room for success (survival + being competitive + cup runs maybe) this season, and that all of a sudden we are attractive not just as a fallback option to get into the PL, but as a bright opportunity to get good minutes and be part of a very exciting club development, this season, next season, and beyond. Maybe I'm over-egging that, I don't know, but it's the feeling I get from all of these interviews and quotes - an intangible feeling that I'm quite hopeful is real.

B0llcks. He's the modern day Sam Morsy. Doesn't particularly want to come here you'd assume but once here he will most likely do a really good job for us.

I agree with you that Romano mostly throws out duds, that don't materialise and everyone immediately forgets. However, someone is feeding him info, and I doubt it's anyone from Ipswich as they prefer to keep things on the down low. I would assume it's either the player or the agent pushing for the move, so I think that bodes well.

Give over, this guy was one of the best players in the bundesliga 2 years ago. This signing changes our entire possibilities this season

Yeah, with Embolo also heading our way, there's definitely a sense that we're "serious" about staying up. The polar opposite to say, Hull, in my view. I also wouldn't underestimate the importance of the new training ground opening. Palacios walking into a new state-of-the-art setup, which is arguably comparable or better than what Leverkusen have, is a big deal day to day.

Yup, we really don’t need a Bundesliga invincible or World Cup winner here. What an absolutely absurd thing to say.

Also I read that he was prepared to lower his wage demands to secure a move to the Prem.

A few Spanish speakers as well, he'll be here for a year whatever happens in reality but hopefully it's one where he's got his Alexis Mac Allister move of the back of it

Genuinely, if we can land Palacios for anything around £100k p/w, that's actually serious value for what he brings to the party. To think we were paying Kalvin Phillips that amount... In the context of PL wages, Palacios is someone who could earn the club a 40x return on his £4-£5m a year salary if we can stay up.

He may be a paid shill but he's still breaking more stories than anyone else. There's a new website that is tracking journalists for their transfer stories. IMO it needs a longer run than one window to really have a good take on things but it currently has Romano top of the pile - and you can dig into the data behind it if you want.
