| So, according to Stu Watson 13:52 - Aug 18 with 3681 views | hype313 | "As things stand, the Blues have been put off by Leverkusen's valuation of €35m (£30m) and are exploring other centre-midfield options." But we've now been told a second bid has been rejected. Someone isn't being truthful. | |

| So, according to Stu Watson on 13:55 - Aug 18 with 3372 views | bsw72 | Not necessarily untruthful, you can be put off at the valuation yet still try with another offer and also be looking at alternatives to mitigate first two . . . | | | |
| So, according to Stu Watson on 13:56 - Aug 18 with 3343 views | Bellevue_Blue | I'd be much more trusting of Florian Plettenberg who tends to nail it when it comes to German clubs. Pretty clear that ... Florian Plettenberg is being sourced by Leverkusen and Romano is being sourced by Palcios' agent. Not sure where Stu is getting his from. | | | |

In fact you'd be foolish not to play the 'we have other options' card, as part of the negotiation.

But the wording of that doesn't insinuate another offer, or that clearly he's our number one target.

Of course he's our #1 target. The issue Leverkusen have is they don't have a bidding war. But equally we want to get Palacios in the building so that he can work with the squad ASAP. Gut feel is that if we want him badly enough, we eventually slap down €30m with another €5m contingent on staying up.

Exactly, agree with everything you say, I'm just merely pointing out that Stuart poo poo'd it this morning, and now we know the truth.

Yeah, it's not hard to read between the lines that the club asked EADT/Phil to 'soften' the language around Palacios' deal. Leverkusen obviously don't want to be made out to be mug sellers on the cheap. We don't want to pay over the top, but even €30m feels a fair price for a World Cup and Bundesliga title winning midfielder in the prime of his career.
| So, according to Stu Watson on 14:08 - Aug 18 with 2904 views | andyblue231 | the amount of time and energy some people pour into our transfers is weird and unhealthy. checking flight data, trawling for inconsistencies, demanding statements from the club. it's really getting too much. very "Gareth Keenan investigates" vibes. | | | |

Most just harmless fun to add a little more drama into exciting transfers ... Actually following players in person crosses a line.
| So, according to Stu Watson on 14:23 - Aug 18 with 2590 views | Cheltenham_Blue | It's all a nonsense. There is no way that Town were surprised by a valuation of £30m for a World Cup winning midfielder at a prime age. The only question is what point of the £20m's they will accept. | |

Would be my best guess too. Our opening bid seemed ridiculously low, almost insultingly low tbh.

Maybe an indication that we genuinely weren't that keen because of his injury history; and really would only take the risk at a significant price drop.

Exactly this. Leverkusen asking for too much for a player who is somewhat of a gamble. Hopefully we'll find some middle ground.

Fabrizio Romano is sharing what agents want the public to think, because he is their mouthpiece. And that's how we find ourselves getting such mixed messages. ITFC want to make out they're not that bothered to Leverkusen lower their asking price. Leverkusen want to make out ITFC are offering nowhere near enough so they increase their bid. Agents want their clients to get a move, because they get paid.

Not sure Stuart is the mouthpiece, especially after he went in quite hard on Faragegate

'Mouthpiece' is maybe the wrong word but it's pretty clear he's verifying information with the ITFC team. Within 3 hours' he dismissed both as wide of the mark. He didn't speculate that they were rumours, he said they understand there isn't truth in either. Where else is he getting the info for European transfers?

The only people fully aware of our current activity will be GO'N, MA, and a handful of people in the wider recruitment team. No one is going to say to Watson, "Yes we have a bid in" Most of what he gets is, "I'm not sure where our interest lies", "We're exploring all options" or "I'll have to get back to you" Stu Watson then puts two and two together from fragments of information. There's no verification for the media, until we are ready to verify. Anyone in the club breaching that will soon find themselves scouring the job market. Its business sensitive information.

Them and any agents involved, yes. I just don't understand how he can say 'We understand, however, that Ipswich have had no contact with Rennes or Embolo over the last few days and that other striker options are currently being explored' and that not come from a Town source? He would have had to speak to Rennes/ an agent acting on behalf of Rennes, Embolo's agent and any other agents of strikers we are interested in to make a statement like that, or to ITFC who would be the only party that would have all that information? “ I just don't understand how he can say 'We understand, however, that Ipswich have had no contact with Rennes” As I said. It’s guesswork. “We understand” is incredibly ambiguous, it’s not a definite ‘yes’, but not a definite ’no’ either

Isn't that the whole point of journalism, that it isn't guesswork? That's why what he says about transfers has more credibility than what you and I say. Because it is sourced. “We understand” doesn't mean “we're guessing”. It's standard journalistic language for reporting information they've been given or established through their sources. From the information available to them, they do not believe that we have bid for Palacios or are in talks with Embolo. Also, why would you guess totally against the general feeling? Everyone is saying these things are happening, and he's suggesting they're not. An odd position to take based on the little to no information he apparently has! [Post edited 18 Aug 19:38]
