Almost all those making money in the Premier League pundit world are stealing a living, so we should not allow ourselves to be too despondent based on them all dismissively relegating us in advance. Of course we might go down. Of course it’ll be a struggle to reach the magical 17th spot. History tells us that, and tells them that. But they spend no time actually weighing the facts now in evidence to reach conclusions about this particular team, in this particular season. It is a’given’ to all of them that Town and Hull will go down, and it is a popular myth that Coventry have equipped themselves better than us to stay up. ( They’ve got Lampard after all, and they’ve spent 9 million pounds on a player some of them think they might have vaguely heard of.)
Classic example from Talk Sport yesterday: 3 pundits.3 predictions. All 3 are convinced that the bottom 3 will be Ipswich, Hull (note the order) and AN Other. 2 picked Fulham, if I remember correctly. None picked Coventry. Opinions are opinions and these are not too surprising. But the reasons given !! Our dear friend Adrian (who hates us for geographical reasons of course) dismissed Ipswich as being (paraphrasing now) just content to bounce up and down between the top and second tiers, and he just can’t understand how we think that is good enough. Obviously totally oblivious to the fact that we are about to surpass Sunderland’s record spending for a promoted club. And taking no account of the new manager. Or the new facilities. Or the ambition of the ownership.
So yes we might go down, although I am sure we WON’T be last , but Durham and the rest of his ilk won’t use any of their limited brain cells to actually consider the changes we are making.
So they don’t know what they are talking about, and we can keep believing in our team in spite of the lot of them if we want to.h

It's in the PL broadcast contract that pundits are not allowed to criticise or predict a poor season for any player or club managed by Frank Lampard.

If we manage to sign Palacios I wonder if they will change their tune. The signing of a world cup winner from Leverkusen might just make them pay attention. Big if though

I think atm we still go down, but I hope and feel that we will have a better go at this time around. The recruitment has been pretty good I reckon l, its just a huge gap to bridge and I think a lot of teams are improved this year, Leeds and Spurs cases in point. Fewer where you look and think they could be one that slips but it is still a big gap to bridge.

Someone unexpected usually surprises and gets dragged into a scrap, maybe Fulham but equally they could have a really good season, it depends how their new signings go, the 2 from Real are supposed to be highly rated. Everton perhaps, struggled towards the end of last season and haven't done much transfer business but Moyes has nouse in keeping sides up.

Newcastle for me are the one, maybe Palace but they shouldn't with their squad..

I think were better thsn Hull and Cov but we should have been better than Cov last year so hopefully we need to better than 1 other team.

I'd take 17th now happily, if we add Palicios and Embolo I think that would conclude a very good window.

He said James Trafford was "like Beckenbauer" and if he was in goal for England at the World cup they'd have won it, the other day so He's best ignored.

The biggest "troll" on Talksport, and contradicts himself constantly.

Don't listen to Trollsport is my advice. The absolute worst of the worst in terms of reactionary, rentajob crap out there.

I am actually enjoying being 19th or 20th on everyone's prediction list. Just go about our business quietly. If they want to big up FL's Cov and announce they will be 18th at worst or higher, let them.

In a betting market with over £100,000 matched we are odds on to get relegated. We are 1.93 to get relegated and 2.07 to stay up. This is the real odds of the exchange and not high street bookmakers with their mark up. This suggests the real chances. However many outsiders will not know our full business and the extent of it and as a betting man and maybe with slight bias I think we are more likely to stay up than not.

Us, Coventry and Hull should be clear favourites for the drop. Of course, all three of us could do something insane and beat the odds, stranger things have and do happen in football.

I think the only real question mark in terms of squad quality could be possibly aimed at Fulham and I say that with the deepest respect, but when you look at their last 10 games of the season, they still performed as a comfortable mid-table team.

There's bits of me that want to drag Crystal Palace, Leeds, Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham into our mini league, but all of those teams possess quality in key areas, just look at their teams and realistically, would many/any of our players make their 11? Hence I mention Fulham.

I hope GON 'fits' Ipswich more than anything. I look at the Wolves team he had and think "are we better than what he had" and ....I'm not sure.

Hope we have a lot more support for him and he'll have learned from a couple more years along the line!

Couldn’t care less. Surprised at the Coventry confidence but it’s presumably a Lampard thing with little logic behind it.

Overall we’ve got a much better shot than last time, both because of who is in the league but also our approach to recruitment. Still think it’s a stretch and if I was a betting person we’re finishing 18th. Our 11 once it settles down is likely to be full internationals from mainly decent nations plus Ouattara, Davis and the GK. That is a good window from where we started.

You are right. Talksport is chock full of full of balloons and lazy windbags stealing a living. That opinionated oaf Durham has to be near the top of the pile of oxygen wasters along with the appalling Jim White. When he was gassing on Sky working himself up to red faced trouser-soiling on ‘transfer deadline day’ I could have hit him all day and never tired. Funnily enough, that’s not changed despite the mug being on radio.

We all know the challenge. We are fully aware, having seen the scale of it two years ago. We may succeed, we may not but it won’t be for the want of trying. So pundits, including dribbling lights are on but nobody’s at home Sutton, I’m master of the off switch so don’t have to listen. Do one the lot of you.

Coventry? Fat Frank? Who cares.

Talksport is the same as any of those types of programs, they only want annoying people on there to antagonise listeners to generate a reaction from them.
If they all said nice, lovely things then it doesn't generate any noise.

Remember any all publicity is good publicity. The more people complain the more publicity they get and the more people start to listen etc etc.
If everyone simply stopped listening to it, guess what, they would quickly change their approach.

I would let them get to you. They’re probably right in us being one of the relegation favourites now before a ball’s kicked; that’s fairly obvious. But that could all change. It’s not something worth worrying about.

They've got the reaction they wanted from you tbf, their job is to rile up people enough so that they engage with.their nonsense. It isn't their job to be accurate or considered.

The bottom line is that we're profoundly boring to these people. They've seen us before, they've seen our manager before, they've seen quite a lot of our players before.

I saw a list of likely breakout stars today and they included Caleb Yirenkyi at Coventry and Hull's Lucas Herrington. Our signings in the same positions were Sasa Lukic and Issa Diop. Now, objectively ours are more likely to immediately be up to the level. If Yirenkyi and Herrington get to the level that Lukic and Diop have shown for a few years now they'll be doing pretty well. But they're boring to pundits. They've seen them before. They know they'll be good and do their jobs but won't be exciting.

we went through this last week I thought with Don Goodman, and yes they are, but when the league demands 250 press spots per game, theres alot of scope for lack of quality punditry to grow.

and we have to remember were back under the press microscope again where they get told to write a story or have an opinion about Town every week, even if its complete nonsense.

I’m probably in a minority on here but I like Talksport...Stelling, McCoist, Simon Jordan are all very listenable, and H&J are still absolute class.

A lot of the enjoyment of Talksport is listening to the callers and as previously mentioned, the job of some of the presenters is to merely drive reaction and create the fun. Just don’t take it seriously, accept there’s a mix of types (some you’ll like and some you’ll think are prats) and opinions, and you can have a good time. Bit like this forum...

I like Jeff Stelling. How he did the Saturday programme on Sky so well I’ll never know. The wallys they have on there now don’t even come close.

The rest? McCoist comes across drunk, H&J have been doing their stuff for years and are boring and as for Jordan - full of sht and beyond annoying.

Years ago I liked the station but now I very rarely bother with it.

Good thing we are all different!
