Fanzone and west stand concourse 07:14 - Aug 24 with 4658 viewsVic

Looks to me like the club did a great job in getting these useable for Saturday.

How unfinished is the inside of the concourse and what will it be like when its someone? I havent seen any photos so im wondering if there was a no photo policy.

The club email/survey offers fans the chance to feed back.

Would encourage those unhappy to do so....mine below.

The club needs to publicly apologise for the utter shit show of the fanzone/West stand entry on Saturday. Having no ability to divide Fanzone and West stand entry, funelling fans through 1 entry point including fans destined for the fanzone which was at capacity, was appalling. The design was dangerous and the failure to communicate to those outside an abject failure of basic crowd management. People exiting through the entry area is a disaster waiting to happen - Google Ibrox disaster for details. The decision to open the fanzone before safe entry and exit have been established was appalling. Whoever made that decision should be nowhere near the business of football. Putting profits ahead of spectator safety is exactly what Sheff Wed did before 97 people died at Hillsborough. If lessons are not learned, layouts changed then I don't believe the club management are fit for purpose.

To be honest, after the debacle of Saturday, I'd doubt many people will bother with the fanzine going forward, the whole thing was an unmitigated disaster. The whole point of this new entry system was to alleviate crowds behind Sir Bob, Saturday was the worst I've ever seen.

No one in Thier right mind will bother going into the Fanzone given the sh1tshow.

Also, another issue was the security being so slow and cumbersome, they weren't even checking bags properly, it was a futile exercise, and not enough staff to cope.

Let's just hope the club have learnt and will put things in place because if this keeps happening, then it could get very ugly.

I still cannot understand how you can say the fanzone has a capacity of 2000 when there was nothing separating the fanzone from the West Stand - as there was in previous seasons. How many does the West Stand hold, 6000?
So how do you say it has a capacity of 2000 when 6000 (in theory) could walk over to it without being stopped.
ITFC didn't pluck 2000 out of the air, so Health and Safety somewhere defined that, but didn't have any separation to keep to that.
Did the club mean 2000 non West Stand fans on top of the 6000 potential West Stand fans.

100% this.

People trying to downplay the issues as queueing issues are not grasping this point. There was nothing to separate fans seeking to enter the West stand and fans seeking to enter the Fanzone.

So it was impossible to fully control.

Add in the debacle of having fans exiting an area where fans were also making entry and you do wonder wtf they were thinking....

Anyone with a ticket for any stand can enter the fanzone. We got there at 1.30 and the fanzone was packed then. Spent thirty minutes in there queueing for the toilets and the kids penalty game for my grandson. First time ever I think I have seen a huge queue for the gents toilets while the ladies didn't have to queue at all!
It was a bit chaotic getting out and having to squeeze through other queues to get to the SBR. A little hold up there as some supporters scanning their phones showed "Entry refused" but we were in our seats by 2.15pm.

I agree that the club did an amazing job to get the fanzone opened which I was not expecting. Yes, some issues to be ironed out but I am confident they will be sorted as the building works are completed.
Brilliant to to see the Town legend Frans Thijssen on the stage.

When presented with the enormous queue across alderman road rec, my group got in the queue and I walked up to the front to scout things out. Spoke to 2 Coppers at the corner of North and West. They said the police had escalated their concerns to the club.

Potentially the most important post on the thread imo. If this was the case, I don’t see why questions can’t be asked by the media or ideally supporters group about what those concerns were. It could be nothing or there could have been safety concerns. Absolutely no harm in asking. If nothing else there are alarm bells and some concerns of some sort that need to be addressed/concerns allayed.

Am really unhappy with how the club managed this.

It appears that the entry into the Fanzone were limited once the fanzone was at capacity. All good.

But the fans for the West stand effectively had to go through the Fanzone irrespective. So how do you limit capacity for something that is also open to the fans using the West stand?

Previosuly there was a division between Fanzone and stand with ticket checks completed on entry from the road for those going straight to their seats. That was unavailable on Saturday.

Now we get two ticket checks, plus the bag checks.

And people saying the fans didn't arrive on time are talking bobbins.

Fans did everything they were asked to do and the police have to intervene because of the potential dangers they could see developing?

I know I am a bit more triggered than most on the importance of safely organised crowd management - but it really isn't good enough from the club imho.

Spot on. The issue of Fanzone reaching capacity so fans then not being able to enter for the stand was pointed out repeatedly to the club during the summer. They ignored the issue.

Saturday, I arrived at 2pm. Queus for the West stand were across the rec & along to the statues by then.

It didn't feel safe, behind SBR particularly, but fan behaviour was excellent.

In the future, club have to learn that you can't put10k fans through a fanzone that's already busy. Result might, sadly, be loss of Fz access to non-West stand ticketholders.

is anyone suggesting that fans and media shouldn't ask questions? I'd like to think the club would recognise that things weren't as they hoped and that action will taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I'm sensing that some of us find it unacceptable that the club made some miscalculations. Everyone makes mistakes. the big issue for me will be if they don;t change things and make sure those dangers points are eliminated next game.

If it's still the same then will be the time to properly complain and assume they are putting finance before safety. Personally I can't bring myself to think that they deliberately did that this time. To suggest they did would be to imply that they refused to heed Police advice - which I don't think there is evidence of.

I hope that MA doesn't try to bluff (lie) his way out of this like he did a certain other self inflicted situation. If he does I can see there being some very, very unhappy fans 9and rightly so. We need to know we can trust the man at the top - and my trust is very thin at the moment.

It looks to me like there’s a bit of pushback against the idea it may have been a safety problem? There’s a few posts on here dismissing suggestions there could have been a safety issue. I doubt any individual in the queues would have any idea of the wider picture across the crowd.

I agree that the main thing is they address any safety concerns by the next game. If there’s a problem they need to deal with it. I’d like them (and the police if they’ve flagged concerns) to be open and transparent about any issues too, but maybe that’s unrealistic.

They’ll obviously have to solve the queuing times too - much more slack to sort that out in their own time of course.

It wouldn't have just been the traders in the fanzone who lost out. The infamous Alderman Rd queue snaked right past the burger van which nobody could use because of the need to stick with the queue.

They really could do with widening Sir Alf Ramsey Way. I understand the houses at the end of Alderman Road are owned by the club anyway, so ought to be possible with some more land purchase. Since the security checks were introduced, it has been hard work getting from one end of Sir Alf way to the the other end.

I'd be quite surprised if the Safety Advisory Group (which is actually chaired by the local authority) hadn't discussed the new arrangement prior to the first game and again afterwards, particularly if there were police concerns on Saturday.

That is not what happened. The FZ was closed to west stand season ticket holders at 2pm from the new top entrance forcing us to start the now legendary queue near north stand which was also the exist for the FZ. Later it seemed more people were allowed into the FZ but none of this was being communicated properly hence the sense or crowd chaos for ingress and egress.

Sorry but you're missing the point the club said the fanzone was restricted to 2000 people but they didn't have any segregation, so how was this lie of 2000 defined?
Last season you had metal fences between the fanzone and the West Stand. This year once you cleared the West Stand security.chevks every was in the same space.

6000 West stand people could be in the restricted 2000 fanzone. Its like a night club with a license for 500 people who experience a fatality and then say.. oh those extra 400 came in very an another entrance

If this club has a health and safety team, they should be sacked
Funnily.enough I just said that to someone and they said thats over the top for one mistake. I pointed out to him he wanted MA sacked for the Farage situation, which was the same one mistake.

Sadly too many fans will simply drop their trousers/ pants and bend over and will accept anything the club shoves in them.
