| What is going through KmC head 21:22 - Aug 27 with 3849 views | Tampa_Florida_Blue | I seeing these new signs coming in, and every time I think to myself, what must be going through Kmc's head. Looking at who we have brought in and the squad he got 2 years ago. You can not convince me he is not watching this transfer window. | | | | |

I agree with this. I’m sure he walked away due to being burnt out. He still lives locally and I feel he still see he is part of ITFC as a fan
| What is going through KmC head on 21:50 - Aug 27 with 736 views | Garv | Don't think it's any slight on him but I'm not sure he would have attracted some of the names. O'Neil had managed two PL clubs before, and in Wolves quite a culturally diverse squad, and kept both up. Since managed abroad too. We'll never know and I might be wrong. Doubt he's too upset though, he knew what he was giving up and he did it for the right reasons. | |

Please show us the evidence that he still takes a wage?

| What is going through KmC head on 21:31 - Aug 27 by CopfordBlue | I doubt anyone on here knows the financial terms of his departure. There’s no way he walked away with nothing but with the club retaining the reported £8m release clause though. He’d have either agreed a lump sump when he left or is be being paid a salary for the remainder of the release clause period. |
Nonsense tbh | |

It’s not a release clause, it’s a compensation clause which th3 club are owed if he wants to terminate his contract early, which he has done. Similar in principle to clauses I have had inserted into some staff contract at work around training, so we will pay for certain leadership qualifications but if the individual leaves within 2 years of completing the train8ng we can ask for the fees we have invested back. It then becomes a negotiation as it is designed to protect the investment we have made.

| What is going through KmC head on 21:35 - Aug 27 by Gary_Knows | We will still be paying his contract, up until he goes to a new club. That’s normally how it works. I only found that’s what happens a few years ago when Tottenham were still paying Mauricio Pochettino for the best part of 2 years until he got the PSG job. It’s also what held up Enzo Maresca’s move to City this summer as he was still being paid by Chelsea as they held his registration. |
That’s what happens when you’re ’let go’. A resignation will not confer that automatically. Anything we pay him will have been an agreement between the club and him for some benifit to the club (like not joining a rival for the next year or more)

| What is going through KmC head on 21:47 - Aug 27 by J2BLUE | Surely that would only be a goodwill gesture? McKenna broke the contract (with our love and goodwill, obviously) so it would make sense to only hold him to that one part of it? Not sure why we would need to pay for it. |
Everything has a price. After all, it's a constraint on him getting a new job for a certain time period.

The release clause, including the 12 months post-resignation timeframe, would have been part of KM's contract of employment (that was renegotiated and agreed in the 2024 close season). The fact of the release clause was publicised at the time. The 12 months clause would have been inserted to avoid a scenario whereby KM could walk away and join another club without any compensation paid to Ipswich. It's quite straightforward. KM resigned, as he was entitled to do, therefore he walks away without the club having an obligation to pay him anything more. Conversely, if the release clause is triggered, then KM / new club would become liable to pay compensation in accordance with KM's contract with Ipswich.

Exactly this ... The £8M clause is nothing to do with Mckenna and everything to do with ITFC. It is there to protect us not him. The clause exists after he leaves to stop him from just resigning as ITFC manager one day and becoming manager somewhere else the next day.

Actually the only way is that you don’t sign a contract that agrees to a compensation clause for breach of contract to join another club else a lot of managers would do it to go elsewhere. It’s not a gesture of good will, it’s protection for his breach of contract and part of an early termination clause.
| What is going through KmC head on 22:17 - Aug 27 with 543 views | Smoresy | It's all very exciting for us - incredible effort by the club - but will he be looking on wistfully? I don't think we had the correct combination of clout, knowledge and revenue to put together a window like this two years ago. He'll have better insight than most on that. My guess is he has eyes set on an established PL club when ready to return. Several of those have £50m+ players in the building and PL quality from 1-25, and that's with eyes focused on the bottom half of the league. We're closing in on a starting XI that may well be good enough, plus a few similar-level replacements in select positions. It's more than I thought realistic in May but we haven't reached parity with most squads that will finish in the bottom half of the table; I don't think it's possible to achieve that in one summer window. | | | |

Truth is, it will be a completely confidential agreement between both parties that we will never know the details of! Safe to say he doesn't need to worry about money. He's played his career absolutely perfectly, leaving this summer was perfect timing for him. I really hope he goes abroad for the next role, really broadens the experience.

That’s my reading/expectation of the situation. We know about the release clause. We don’t know if all salary payments stopped when he left. It’s likely they did, as you say, because he resigned. There *may* have been an element of settling up part of his contract as a thank you, but that’s only an unlikely possibility. It wasn’t like a mutual departure or sacking where the manager has a claim to some/all the balance of the contract.

I can't see how he's gonna get a PL job when not even in the game and had a disaster last time around. Why also did he play more pragmatically in preparation for the PL then not lead us there. I just hope everything is OK with him and his family. I can't imagine he's not looking on with envy, it's been a remarkable window.

Perhaps he left because he was burnt out like he said he was. That would make sense whilst the bizarre conspiracy theories won't. I find it hugely disparaging that people start threads like this and try to make it all into some sort of nonsense. I am just grateful for what McKenna has done for us and wish him well.

He's going to walk into a job with one of the mid table PL teams no questions asked ... Brighton, Bournemouth, Villa, Newcastle, Brentford, Forest, Everton, Leeds .. I could go on. If any of those came up post November time I think he would be interviewing with a good chance.

Your final paragraph is spot on. There is a fundamental difference between an employee resigning and an employee with a fixed-term contract being given the sack.

| What is going through KmC head on 21:49 - Aug 27 by bsw72 | Nope, by resigning you forfeit any claim to remainder of contract outside of any agreed bonus based on performance, however the compensation clause will still apply for 12 months from point of termination. I cant see how any clause would legally obligate Town to be paying a salary anymore under employment law unless everyone is not tell8ng the truth and he was fired. |
Knowing the decency of our owners, I doubt ‘legality’ came into it. More likely a matter of the wellbeing of the manager who’d done so much for us; and his family too (who also made their sacrifices during those 5 years) were their priority. Perhaps an element of pragmatism in their thinking too - a burnt out manager would not have been the best thing for Town going into his second season in the Prem with us.

He decided for the good of his health/career/family or whatever the real reasons were to still take a break. Nothing wrong there, We still have the transfer window we've been planning and he gets the break he obviously badly wanted. I would expect he's happy. It's a win, win as far as I'm concerned.
