I assume weāre not looking to reinforce RB because Ouattara is expected to step into that role very soon. If not, the need for defensive reinforcements is even more dire. Otherwise weāre potentially undoing all the good work put into getting players like Enciso and Palacios through the door.

Itās not a league where we want to be patching up with makeshift defenders is it. You need everyone on their game and in their preferred positions, as most are going to be outclassed individually by a lot of attacks in this division.
Weāll see what happens, but if it ends up with only Fleming in and Akpom out today thatās going to leave us worrying about defensive injuries or drop in form all the way through to January.
Ouattara is the big unknown. Heās young but GON will know what heās capable of. Heās got the physical attributes we need and could really shine in either fb position. But we just donāt know if he can step up to PL levels.

Except that the defence was our best unit last season, much stronger than that which went up from the Champ last time (conceded 10 fewer goals in the promotion campaign). It wasn't the area which required the most upgrading. |  |
