I would say it doesn't rhyme, but forces and crosses also only rhyme if you're Tom Morello.

Problem is, with the first thing you have a lot of people trying to drive wedges as hard as possible, for media clicks and political power. Artificially increases the alienation, pushes people to the extreme and negates compromise or even rational debate. With the second, that is tremendously difficult, especially with the current global environment. It's over-promising and under-delivering on prosperity which has got us into this mess in the first place.

I can't see that we do. People are being made stupider and enormous amounts of money are being piled into creating a noticeable population % of slavering bigots.

far be it from me to be doubting thomas' words, but i think i read that his group went en masse. i'm guessing that it's a church in name only where the pastor is one d thomas, and the god they worship has the same name

Think we are slowly moving into unprecedented times. Historically I don't think there as ever been a period in which a few wealthy individuals could manipulate/influence large parts of the population across the world to this effect. Think this may be part of the reason why it seems so difficult to fathom or change/improve the situation

BUT the article doesn't actually say what you claim. it says the station closed after demonstrations, it doesn't say it closed because of demonstrations. it is stating two things knowing that an implied causation will be assumed. the only statement from the rnli about why the station is temporarily closed is: “At times, it is not unusual for lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland to be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or other operational requirements." in terms of what is written in the article there is nothing more to establish the reason for the temporary closure. |
Jeez Lowers. How can you read that article and then chose to partly discredit it with semantics? It's clear from the entire article that RNLI crews have been getting abuse. To then use a probable stock statement as a means to question the veracity of the article is just strange. We all want the truth and accuracy, but come on.

I find the entire term Christian Patriots weird and amusing enough. People protesting about the risk of losing our cultural identity, while identifying with a religion and culture from the Middle East that was in many ways fundamental in the destruction of our previous ancient British beliefs and ritual culture..

buts that's not what the rnli has said. if they had been forced to close due to intimidation surely, for all sorts of very good reasons, that's what they would have said. but they didn't. the article is careful to abut two facts without stating how they are linked. i suspect that is intentional and they are happy for people to infer what you have inferred. critical reading is an import an skill in an online world. this is a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Not sure it's so different from the early 20th century, when you had the Rothermere/Northcliffe press, hugely influential. Plus demagogues like Horatio Bottomley (well worth looking up as a comparison with Farage). That was countered by left-wing and working class political movements, which contributed to a growth and broadening of education.

It's exactly the same here. They are scum preventing life saving services. If they get a good kicking while being moved then fair enough. |
The "delaying ambulances" criticism has been levelled at Extinction Rebellion protests, which have caused delays to transport infrastructure. The big differences here are: 1) people are publishing the home addresses of RNLI crew members and other volunteers online 2) the Extinction Rebellion actions were avowedly peaceful, and they did not resist arrest (beyond time wasting tactics) or act with aggression towards the Police or bystanders 3) ER protestors don't cover their faces, and wait for arrest and prosecution because they want their day in court. 4) the Patriots probably want a physical confrontation, ultimately, when they have sufficient numbers present. Some of their members have already used violence against Police.

Prima facie most people would be forgiven for seeing a causal link, fallacy or not. I return to my main point, it's an odd article to take the time to critically read. The link between the two can quite easily be made.

What is the purpose of you posting this? The reason they have closed seems quite clear, if you look up the RNLI statement in full you would see that the section of the statement you have picked up on to suggest some reasonable doubt about the cause for the closure would seem to have been included to reassure people that lifeboat stations do go off-service from time to time, and that contingency plans are in place to ensure search and rescue cover is still provided in the area: “Portsmouth lifeboat station has been temporarily off-service since 10 September. We hope to have the lifeboat station back on service as soon as possible.” "Search and rescue cover continues to be provided through established contingency arrangements, including flank RNLI stations and other declared assets. “At times, it is not unusual for lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland to be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance or other operational requirements. “In such circumstances, established contingency arrangements are put in place to ensure continued search and rescue cover.” Given the doxxing and threats to life boat crews at this station were very real, and a lifeboat station being fully out of service is an unusual step, particularly for this length of time, the inference that these are connected is reasonable. So while I can see the statement does leave some ambiguity, I would go back to my first question, what is the purpose of your post? Are you this much of a stickler for accurate reporting at all times or just when it paints the far right in a negative light?

If you’re talking about the environment protests then you’re comparing apples with pears. These people are targeting and threatening the RNLI. Environmental protestors haven’t targeted emergency services, or threatened them, as far as I’m aware. IIRC there were examples of them letting emergency service vehicles through when they were caught up in congestion. Very different motivations and ideologies.
