Never mind getting covered in beer if we score at away days!

Not really. It can sometime be as much as 45'+9'! *starts cold sweats at the thought* (Agreed. I would have been in favour one before beer showers became a thing).

Grumpy old me now says B - there would be people going in an out all the time for beers and wees, and it would be carnage when there's a goal.

| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 09:09 - Sep 24 with 1852 views | DarkBrandon | I’m b too - and surprised to discover that view is so popular. Where I sit the risk would be being covered in Red Wine or Gin, but I’m perfectly happy with the rules as they stand. The weird anomaly is in non league football where you can have a pint on the touchine if you with … except at FA Cup matches where the FA’s rules apply and you can’t. But at nonleague there is so much space walking to the bar/loo is easy and if someone is getting a bit excitable having sniffed the barmaids apron for the first time you can just move away. | | | |
| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 09:09 - Sep 24 with 1853 views | Guthrum | A bit of both, really. It would be more civilised not to have to neck the beer you've queued most of half-time for. But on the other hand, it's a little odd needing to get utterly hammered in order to watch football (we're not in the latter days of McCarthy any more). | |

Fortuna v Duisberg, local derby, 48,000 in the MSA, happily drinking an Altbier which was refilled by a bloke walking around with a keg on his back. But not in the UK. Why?

Apart from Rugby (both codes), T20 and The Hundred Cricket which aren't slow paced at all and do their best to engage the crowd rather than make them feel like the bad guys.

I could maybe see the appeal when sat in the upper Cobbold with the oldies, but in the lower north it would be terrible for people chucking beer every time a goal was scored.

I'm unsure about the whole 'people will chuck their beer' thing. People (generally) don't throw their generic fizzy drink without a cap on the bottle, so I don't see why they'd do it with beer. Something that happens in BoxPark and other Fan Zones for England games wouldn't necessarily translate to the SBR on a match day. The only time I ever encountered flying beer at a German game was when a Nuremberg accidentally kicked theirs on to me at Viktoria Cologne. They apologised profusely and bought me a beer to make up for it.

I don't think Burnham sits with the plebs, probably in corporate food & drink delivered to his seat

It might work in the posh seats where Andy Burnham sits but not in an away end or what would once have been the hooligan home end of a stadium. But they would never go down that route. [Post edited 24 Sep 10:17]

| Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 10:06 - Sep 24 with 1622 views | LandOfMickyStockwell | I can see this being liked by clubs to gain revenue. A trial might be that bars still close during the match to prevent people getting up, but is unmanageable. I've been to rugby, found I drank pints more out of rounds culture than wanting to. I wasn't interested in the game (not my sport TBH). Strong B. 1. Safe standing makes it difficult to put the pint on the floor, so less clapping, less singing, more knocking over. 2. Spills by accident or on purpose. I hate the 'limbs' phenomenon. At best wet shoes, worst wet head. VAR decisions can't put pints back in to glasses. Offenders easily lost in the crowd rather than ejected. That is if they're not punched first. 3. Better culture talking to other fans while drinking, not just your mate beside you. Drinking in the stands seems insular. 4. Benefit to club revenues, does this mean less for local pubs that rely on match trade? If both benefit, then there's a lot of beery people. I think the before / after pints could be affected. 5. Football is more family orientated, nice to have a moment away from alcohol. On the pitch is the most important thing. 6. Disruption during the game happens now for toilet breaks and half-time. The rows at the Hill Dickenson were very tight, can't imaging the difficulty carrying pints through that. | Burnham thinking about allowing drinking in the stands … on 10:14 - Sep 24 with 1610 views | SWLondonBlue93 | Imagine the scene - it is a cold January night, we are 1-0 down in the 90th minute, but we scramble home a late equaliser. Everyone goes wild, beer thrown everywhere. Then on the big screen it says "VAR check in progress". The goal is disallowed because Diop's toenail is offside. We lose and I now have to get on a train smelling like a brewery. Doesn't appeal to me to be honest. | | | |

Losing 1-0 in 90th minute - there would not been that many left in the ground, at least where I sit in the West . . . I have noticed more and more people leaving earlier from games these days than ever before, it may be just because I now watch for it though.
