Hasn’t really progressed since he left us, has he? Shame. I know the bullying and such is all part of his game but what a striker he could be if he learned to control that side of his play. When he was here I thought he could be the next Harry Kane. Maybe some players just never fulfil that early promise. Too early to write him off, though, I guess

He made a bad decision. He should never have gone to Chelsea. If he'd gone to Newcastle under Howe or Everton under Moyes, they would have really developed him, and he could still be an England possible.

He's become something of a caricature with the bullying and shirt ripping.

If he doesn't start hitting the target he's in danger of going down in history as a one season wonder. No point being a bully and a bulldozer on the pitch if you can't find the goal.

He had a very good half a season with us where he was the shining light in a bad team. He needed developing. He chose the wrong club.
Is forest the right club too? Im not so sure.

True. I reckon forest should be good for him. Glasner certainly. Direct and get it forward quickly. He's at his best running at space (never suited possession Chelsea Tring to break down low blocks).

He's a couple of goals and confidence away from going on a good run. Would back him to score 10+ still this season.

He has been the most memed player in the country for the last 18 months of course that will effect a young man. I still think he looks brilliant.

Battled well and showed some nice bursts of speed and touches, but does not really have the mental side of the game sussed at all. Not progressed at all. Still a bull in a china shop.

You kind of revising history there.

At the start of the season he was given the number 9 shirt, won the club world cup and was on the verge of the England squad - he started regularly but then it turned bad.

At the time joining Chelsea was in his best interests.

Everton was just the dull option.

Didnt he win that cup with barely any involvement and was given the 9 as thats why they purchased him but then got pedro too and delap failed to produce anything for them. The bit about england was still because of how he was seen during his town stint not because of anything he did at chelsea

Watching that last night it's astonishing to think he's a £50m striker.

A bit Enciso like in that he is trying too hard.

Also focuses on physicality and power to the detriment of his accuracy.

If he calmed down a bit there's still a great player in there.

He desperately needs a goal though.

How he didn’t get a yellow card is laughable - ref was weak though.

The shirt rip and the late foul on Palacios were enough to earn him a booking.

Has he ever been ‘that’ good? Was well thought of at youth level, but not enough for City to not take £15m for him which is peanuts for them. Did alright at Hull, nothing ground breaking though. Had a 6 month purple patch for us, not done much since.

Don’t get me wrong he’s a handful, big, strong, direct. He does what he does reasonably well, and no doubt will have a decent enough career at the top level, but is he destined for anything more than a Chris Wood or Michael Antonio type career over the next 8 years or so? Not sure myself, not sure he’s technically good enough.

He’s a good player, don’t think he’s a great player or ever has been tbh.

I don't think Delap's first touch is great & that's why he wasn't a good fit for Chelsea.

Antonio is a really good comparison.

Proper unit, runs and runs, real handful for defenders, but not an especially graceful footballer.

Based on comments on Facebook and BBC the forest fans really haven't taken to him at all.

half season wonder at that, he wasnt much different for us from last night to the second half of his season with us, lots of effort, no end product.

but I dont think he was suited to style of Chelsea, and Forest arent playing to his strengths either. you have to build your team and attack around him, not just slot him in as part of a combination

at least it will stop those moaning that we didnt buy him back.

Think it's a bit unfair to say he was only good for half a season with us, but completely agree with the rest. Thought the Forest move was the perfect match for how he plays and how he'd fit well in their style.

Problem is his first touch is why so often he's battling to get in control, and he likes a battle.

I guess now it's a question of whether Glasner has the patience for him to get his Ipswich mojo back or if he becomes a very expensive sub.

Wood is past it & Igor Jesus picked up a calf muscle injury on the dreaded international break. So Delap is their man right now. Failure to find the net has been Forest's big failing this season. I was impressed by how often they got their crosses in early A Chris Wood of a few years ago would have thrived on that.

I didn’t say half a season to be fair, I said 6 months. He was done by the end of March.

Id say hes not PL standard. First touch very poor most of the time. He catches the eye because of his power. Other than that I feel he's a bit one dimensional. He likes to run at defenders. When he cant get the better of them, he gets frustrated and then he starts the bully boy stuff. Diop had him in his back pocket all night.
I think his move to Forest is very important him this seadon. If he doesnt ascert himself there i think he will slip back down to the Championship... which i feel is his l level anyway.

He is a handful but I thought we dealt with him in the main pretty well, he lacks composure and control in his shots, surely some coaches can refine that part of his game?

I thought that was the one thing missing from his game. Unfortunately for him it is exacerbated by it being an overall failing for his team.

He put himself about a lot, got into at least 2 really good goalscoring positions but then failed to hit the target with them. An on-form Delap would have had at least 2 and possibly 3 goals and would have looked as good as Haaland. Instead, he is seen as having no impact on the game in a team that is struggling. He does have a knack of being able to get away with a lot of physical stuff. I don't know how he didn't get booked last night.
