North Stand Lower last night on 12:09 - Oct 24 by DJR

The rot started when my four friends and I voluntarily moved the upper north early in the 2021-22 season to make way from members of Blue Action.

Seriously though, there are three thoughts that strike me.

1. The songs that Bock A start are rather dirge[like and not as varied, catchy and spontaneous as at away games.

2. More generally, we haven't replaced the recent catchy songs for players who have departed.

3. The north stand being tow-tiered is much less conducive to co-ordinated singing than if it were a single tier, as is the case at most away games.

What I would say is I think the drum needs to go in Block A. I get the attempt to create an atmosphere but it just masks the chants and makes it hard to hear what is being sung. There was a moment where West Stand tried to get a chant going yesterday - I know, I was stunned too - but it was completely different to Block A's. The SBR could have connected the two but it was very poor this evening. A couple of us tried to get things going in upper but there was no reaction.

Perhaps expectation played a part last night. The crowd were nervous thinking we really needed a win. When Forest started by dominating it increased those nerves further. We were at our best at the end of the the first half, when Town had a foothold in the game. The second half was dire, on and off the pitch.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

Relocate Blue Action into the middle of the North Stand Lower. Encourage displays etc etc and the atmosphere will be a lot better.

100%, "from next season your seat is no longer guaranteed " or something along those lines should do it, they simply have to get BA back in the lower, it's as simple as that..

I suspect we'll probably move the away fans when they build the new Cobbold, I'd guess to the South initially

Would a better designed mega Cobbold encourage the singing section nearer to the South if the away fans remained there?

Was told that the away fans will indeed move to the South Stand. They have to be towards that end of the ground for access to the train station apparently.

Why! For the greater good of generating a far better atmosphere than what there is currently.

Once again. Its been poor since the noisy ones went to the Cobbold. Bad move.

Even they aren't that loud. The Blue Action guys (I assume at the front) try to get everyone up for it but half of that section are arms folded in silence as well.

I get stuck in with the singing but have to admit some of the chants last night were very strange there was one last night I hadn't heard before that sounded like just one long word.

Need some simple player chants before these new European style anthems.

I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised, but it'll never happen on Ashton's watch.

We need to take a leaf out of the Germans' books, and essentially 'give' the Lower North to BA. Allow them to co-ordinate their section, and do what they need to do in order to create an atmosphere. Many of the German fan-blocks have 'conditions of entry', which state what the Club/Ultras expect of those choosing to stand in that sector:

What all of the examples here tend to have in common, is a ban on mobile phones during the game, and an expectation that you may find your view blocked by flags/choreo etc., The overrriding message is that you are there first and foremost to support the team and create an atmosphere, and everything else is secondary.

I'd recommend anyone interested to take in a game in Germany if possible. Shows what can be done when the fans are prioritised.

Seen games at Cologne and Dortmund and they really do put ours to shame in terms of the atmosphere generated.

I watched Dortmund v Werder the other week on iPlayer and the atmosphere was amazing.

If it wasn't for 50 + 1 and German fan power etc., I reckon the broadcasters et al would drop the PL in a heartbeat and head straight for Germany (although that, in turn, would probably kill German football's famous atmospheres).

The Northstand has become quite depressing and sanitised
Old Boys like me who will join in but there is nothing to join in with
Yoof who seem have no interest other then their phones
The bloody pre match stuff kills the atmosphere
I would move to the side to get Blue Action in and they should be given every support by the club.
But we are not really wanted now, how dare we pay our money up front and refuse to buy over priced scoff and drink.

The pre-match stuff utterly kills things. It used to be a case when you’d start to warm up from 10-15 mins before KO. And to a degree that can still happen, but then the PA kills everyone off and the atmosphere can’t build into KO.

When I went to Dynamo Dresden you weren't allowed into the home "ultras' end unless you wore yellow and joined in the singing. It would take some social engineering to get that at PR

Agreed - it’ll never happen under Ashton’s watch. In general he has done a fantastic job but I’m not sure he’s ever encouraged Blue Action?

I may well be being unfair towards the fella but I doubt it.

Far from encouraging them, he's called them into the stadium before to bawl them out for bringing a mildly critical banner into 'his ground'.

They've been left under no illusions as to where they stand in the grand scheme of things.

Pretty disgusting treatment, given the club are all too happy to put them front and centre on the socials when it boosts the club's image and drives engagement.
