If someone thinks he was rubbish, you can safely disregard their opinions on anything football related. See also: Cole Skuse, James Scowcroft, Jim Magilton [Post edited 4 Apr 2020 15:24]

I remember myself and my son having an almost game long 'discussion' with two other ITFC supporters at Burnley about the merits of Jamma. My son and I obviously were on Jamma's side.
Jermaine Wright on 12:22 - Apr 4 with 2030 views | monty_radio | Significant others seemed to share those reservations judging by the number of sub appearances, the cancelled Leeds contract, the loans at an age where he was still at his peak and the fact that Southampton often used him as a fullback. For me, he joins a long line of midfielders such as Garvan, Brennan and Petta whose seeming class always threatened to impose itself on each game, but often failed to do so. I'm hoping that Andre doesn't apply to join their ranks.

Jermaine Wright on 12:22 - Apr 4 with 2030 views | Pinewoodblue | Are there any first team regulars from the Burley era that wouldn’t improve the current side?

Jermaine Wright on 12:23 - Apr 4 with 2030 views | homer_123 | Also, for a midfielder like Tommy Miller - who could actually get up, support and get beyond the front players to cause the opposition problems. Even players likes Darren 'Stepover, beat a player twice' Currie would dramatically improve out midfield.

Jermaine Wright on 12:30 - Apr 4 with 2017 views | Dennyx4 | I remember there was a bit of a shock when he was named in the starting 11 for the play off final. He hadn't featured in either of the semi's - he wasn't even on the bench.

Amir Karic? Marco Holster? A few of the fringe squad players who barely got a game

Jermaine Wright on 13:48 - Apr 4 with 1909 views | Plums | He would. I’d have liked to see him cross the halfway line more frequently but often thought he was just doing as instructed. A lovely touch and possibly the first player I recall seeing wearing white boots.

Jermaine Wright on 13:56 - Apr 4 with 1896 views | PrideOfTheEast | Of course he’d transform our midfield - he was a more than competent top end Championship player who had a decent season in the premier league and almost got an England call up. The midfield needs a Magilton type now more than ever - both in terms of the football but also his character.
Jermaine Wright on 15:14 - Apr 4 with 1823 views | Nthsuffolkblue | I really don't get these threads. It is a bit like saying can you find a player who gets regular games for a Premier League side or possibly a top Championship club who would not improve us? Of course they all would. Many players who would not even get a look in at a lower Championship side would improve us. [Post edited 4 Apr 2020 15:15]

Amir Karic never started a league game for Ipswich, Marco Holster only started ten.

I thought that initially then read his post as you could add those two to the list. The only reason Karic never played was some falling out with Burley. Holster clearly wasn't good enough but I am sure would be a superstar at this level.

I think the reason for that is because he was essentially brought in as a replacement for Kieron Dyer. As good as Wright was he clearly wasn't as good as Dyer, and because he wasn't many supporters were unfairly over critical of him.

You seriously saying some supporters thought Magilton was rubbish? Those supporters should have been sectioned immediately!

There was quite a few fools on here who would refer to Jim as 'The Crab' or 'Sideways Jim'.

This is true. He was also a very different kind of midfielder to Dyer and I think fans thought we were signing like for like, albeit not as good.

I remember Brian Glanville the doyen of football writers praised his “elegant use of the ball” He very rarely gave away possession.

But it's a relative harmless way of self-flagellating: 1) Pick a player from the last 25 years who played reasonably often, but was not the best of our best. 2) Compare with whoever you like in the current squad. 3) Ponder how he would be an ever-present and a 7+ in every game played today. 4) Shake head slowly and gravely at the pain of it all. 5) Log on and point the finger at Lambo / Marcus / Clegg / Sheepie / Deckchair / Wolfie. Not by me. One of Town's best players during our two years in the Premier League. A very good footballer with a brilliant shot.
