Hmm... unsure.

Left Back/Winger - Tick
Experienced - Tick
34 - Hmm...

There could be nothing in a lot of these links, but so far we're only being linked to players at the end of their career. I wouldn't have thought we're that desperate to build a team of geriatrics. We already have Chambo at the back and plenty of experience ahead of him. Maybe one more experienced defender wouldn't hurt though, as Chambo isn't going to play every match.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

If he is still in good shape, then the odd 'old pro' can be a good thing.

I dont think 34/35 is a non starter these days, especially in L1.

I always worry about having ageing players at full back, who can get torn a new one by upstart wingers. It's less of an issue at centre half where older CBs can use their positional sense to outfox forwards.

It's a no from me.

Usually I'd agree with you, but given that Lambert seems to like his full-backs to make forward runs I just worry that he's at an age where the legs start to go.

Phil Bardsley is 35 and has done a job an Burnley this season.

I dont think age is always the be all and end all.

Thats one for the fitness team / physios to decide.

I agree with you in principle.

need a few more experienced pros in the middle of their career rather than the end of their career.

Trouble is good players don't tend to be on frees!

Could be a really good acquisition for a season.

As long as he has looked after himself fitness wise, think could be an ideal solution for our left back issue.

Where's the bloke from the Burley thread that was claiming the other day that the new wage cap would stop us recruiting experienced professionals to help guide our young squad?

My thinking too. Same with Graham. Short term-ish options than are better than what we have, in positions where we have promising players that could benefit from training/learning from them as they are eased into first team football this season.

Now guess how many games he would feature in a season ? Marcus Evans continues to ruin this club.

It's all a bit Jewell-esque our transfer rumours this summer isn't it?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Do you see any other constant in our demise over the last thirteen years?

We are looking at short term fixes like this because we are where we are, and whose fault is that!

Sorry!

I just have to see any reference to Evans and the red mist comes over me.

I get that he's 34 but why is it such a huge issue? Has played at this level before and several leagues above, knows what it takes to get out of this league, and I suspect will be someone who can come in and do a good job when called upon. As long as wages are sensible, there's little risk in having someone like this on board.

18 games in 2 seasons would be a slight concern, albeit those seasons have been at higher levels. Unlike when Jewell was signing veterans galore a few years ago, this squad lacks in experience to the point that 2 or 3 experienced figures will probably be a big help on/ off the pitch.
