34/35 year old forward, 30 appearances and 0 goals in League One. Doesn't sound great!

When seen like that then perhaps not great for them. Great for us though, especially in the promotion season. He's also not an out-and-out forward really. SB

Whilst Scowie was never particularly prolific, even at his peak(1999-2000, 15 goals), that is still pretty piss poor.

He was definitely at his best playing behind an 'out and out' front two, for sure. It's no coincidence that his best performances came when Burley was playing him behind Johnson and Naylor early 1999/2000. [Post edited 18 Aug 2020 17:32]

Mark Fish would probably feature amongst our worst ever players and I'm sure Charlton fans would find that absurd.

He played as a central midfielder for them if I recall?

Lol, doesn’t sound like it. I loved Scowie, but that sounds like one season too far for him.

In comparison I think they see him in the same light as we see Mark Fish

I watched him just after at Bury Town a few times, where he was bloody great. Really enjoyed watching that Bury team, was my introduction into watching non-league football.

I know an Orient season ticket holder who always maintains Scowie was one of the worst players he's ever seen. Absolutely horrendous for them.

The same goes for Mark Fish. He had a pretty decent career but we judge him on 45 minutes which he played when obviously unfit. And when Scowie was at Orient at age 34 he was apparently hardly ever fit, so falls into the "ageing crock" was far as their fans are concerned. A bit like John Scales when he was at Town. Timing is why I would reserve judgement on Tommy Smith until he's proven competitive fitness. He may be fine still (he did play a fair few games last summer in the US, albeit virtually nothing since). Our views on him are more than likely to be based on the Tommy Smith we knew several years ago. He may not be close to being that player now.

Was Scales injured all the time? I thought he was just brought in as back up with a bit of Premier League experience and to replace Tony Mowbray as the elder statesman in the squad? [Post edited 19 Aug 2020 12:43]
