But I really think he should call the players out.

So he should say he doesn’t call the players out and then call them out. Welcome back Lambo.

Nothing will help. But if Evans is called out. Lambert was called out. Time the players take some responsibility

Once we're mathematically out we should do what we have done with Cotter and release most of the players. Nobody should be offered a deal in my view. They can rot elsewhere on half the money.

You think publicly betraying his players will gain confidence?

This season is fecked so he has this time to evaluate what he has, what he wants to keep, what he wants to let go, and what he needs to bring in.

Slagging off the staff doesn't fit into any of that.

For me. Theres a big fanbase out there who arent regulars in twtd or twitter and as a few posters already post theres negative feelings already about cooks appointment.

I think so people have a balanced view then the truth about lack of training efforts etc should be known.

Why should the manager take all the flack when such issues are known.. fans deserve to know about them.

I doubt it’d make matters much worse. I’d love him to say “I’m writing off this season, the remaining matches are a giant pre-season. If the players want to be here next August they’ll have to prove it - right now I’d be happy to get rid of everyone.”

Agree. However Cook can't afford to publicly criticize his own players until we're out of the race and/or they're released

Why not

Let's face it. We are out of the race

If that means we see dobra. Woolfy etc who are interested in playing. Let's watch them instead

Call the players out? No point. It won’t change anything with them. The players are too old, on loan so playing for fitness and avoiding injury, or just not good enough. They are possibly trying to get him out. They wouldn’t be the first group of players to do that. If top players can do that to Brian Clough at Leeds, idle tin pot garbage can certainly try and do that at this club.

Unless Cook is supported in building a new team, his team, they will be in the relegation places this time next year.

Cook has to be given time and resources. My fear is that he may well be given the former, but I doubt he will get the latter.

Managers are publicly calling players out all the time. Players are subbed and dropped if they don’t put in the effort.

Calling out players in public is a reflection on the managers ego.

Happy for managers to focus on observing and improving the team.

The only time as a manager you can get away with calling out the players is if you have the trust of the majority of the squad, which is unlikely at this stage, or if as a manager, you're significantly performing above expectation / perceived ability, which is definitely not the case - but in those scenarios you do see managers sometimes go in on individuals.

I don;t think he needs to does he? Other than Pompey for 60 mins, we're playing badly for the most part so if you're not near that first team at the moment, its a pretty sad indictment on them ala: Huws, Thomas, Donacien...

This group of players are mentally so fragile, and PC is smart enough to know that openly calling this group of players out in the press won't do anyone any benefits.

I'm sure he'll have stern words behind closed doors, and rightfully so in private, although I suspect a few of this crop would throw their toys out of the pram.

Would you like it if you turned up to work and your managers hands you a badge with "Worst Employee Here". You keep these things internal and it's clear to see the team are at fault for majority of this, no need to publicly shame them.

I like that.

Make underperforming players wear badges saying how crap they have been.

They could come in grades and maybe different colours too.

Sort of thing Paul Hurst might have employed if he'd thought of it.

Tbf he did already after the Wigan game. Alluded to their lack of desire, belief and will to win. I think Cook struck a good tone - called the players out but didn't hammer them like Hurst. I have no doubt an awful lot has been said to the players behind the scenes.
