Yes. But Paul Cook obviously doesn't agree with you or he and the club wouldn't be offering Gwion a multi-year contract. So either you're wrong, or Paul Cook isn't quite the genius a lot of posters seem to think he is. [Post edited 26 May 2021 9:57]

Agree with the first point. Downes, KVY, Dozzell, Woolfy, Norwood are the 5 I'm most interested in keeping. Bishop to a lesser extent. I wouldn't include Edwards in that tranche personally, he can go to the highest bidder.

Dobra is the sort of player we should be keeping and developing , Edwards has had long enough to improve , but not done it . Edwards ball control and crossing has not improved .

Agree with that list. I’d add Dobra to the keep contingent as well. I’d like to see Cook show a willingness to coach and motivate existing players with talent as well as recruiting players who he’s bringing in based on past achievements.

Perhaps he wants the opportunity to try and get him back to his original fitness and work with him... after all. 5 goals in what 6 games before his injury?..

I don't think Edwards is a bad as his detractors claim, he'll score a few goals and he looked ok in the Championship for parts of 2018-19 but, ye, I wouldn't be trying to keep him above those on your list.

I dont know why hes being compared to those others. None of them play in his position.

Although it's a bit odd that he thinks he can coach a 28 year-old, technically-limited League 1 winger but doesn't feel he can improve the likes of Woolf, Downes, Dozzer, Bish, Dobs, and Lankester. I do find the offering of a new contract to Edwards a bit baffling when you look at who we're seemingly not arsed about keeping.

Because if we are prepared to let everyone else go then position is irrelevant, it's an argument about quality and the potential ceiling, and therefore value, of those players to the club.

Based on contribution. I'd say Edward's contribured much more than any of those players mentioned. Its not really a shock to see we are trying to keep him. And also again... we still as fans dont know what players deep down PC wants to stay at the club but wants to see a bit of fight for the right to play for the club. And I'm totally for that.

He contributed 2 more goals than Teddy Bishop despite playing in a more advanced role. His contribution was good for about 6 games at the start of the season, after that he was dreadful for the most part.

Contributed more imo. He worked well with Kenlock. Enabled kenlock space to overlap etc... something you saw was missing when Edwards was subbed etc. Not forgetting Edward's was another who came back out of shape. Not saying there isnt better out there... but not surprised we have offered a deal. [Post edited 26 May 2021 11:00]

The big signing they announce when Aston 'officially' starts... on 11:08 - May 26 with 2319 views | Nazemariner | Edwards is clearly a player we should be trying to keep. What ever you think about his ability, he is the only winger at the club, and so on that basis alone is worth retaining. If i were Gwion i'd be waiting to see who Cook brings in before i committed my future to the club.

Looking at his time here overall, have to say if we're hanging our hat on him staying I would be very underwhelmed, especially given the noises around "Think Higher". He scored 6 at the beginning of the season and did a nice flick over his head on his debut, the rest of the time he's been pretty anonymous.

Thing is all we have done is offered a new contract. The EADT make it sound more than it is. I doubt we sitting waiting to see if he signs it before looking at others.

Is it not the case that certain players are being offered contracts because it is thought that they can then be sold for a fee rather than they become certain starters next season?

Bit different triggering an automatic year to offering a 'multi year' new deal.

Yes, but one of the biggest failings we have had is an over inflated inadequate squad, so if we're just handing out contracts to guys that are not really Cook's cup of tea then it's a waste of time, or as I suspect it's a ruse to potentially sell on, but I'm sure other clubs will be ready to offer something better if they get a sniff they might have to pay for him.
