Please stop being so impatient about signings. 10:49 - Jun 17 with 2946 viewsRopeyAdvice

Ashton “We have got two in very quickly and we’re in the mix for a handful more. They will continue to come in over the next few weeks. Watch this space.

Less than two weeks ago he said this. Trust the process and please stop clogging up social media with desperation.

Great things could potentially be coming we just have to be patient

I think some would be more patient if it wasn’t for Wigan picking up a handful of players already, a few who wouldn’t have been bad signings here, and seemingly ahead of the game. The fact Wigan are managing it is making people twitchy.

But what they got

3 players who has played under PC and Leam
Edwards - We have Burns
Cousins - back up last season, not a goal scorer in midfield - we have evans who chips in with goals but is similar in position and possibly Harper

All in all, There isn't 1 of their signings that i'd have wanted at Town for what we are looking to build. If you took any of those they have signed, then no point getting rid of any we currently have.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

I may have wanted Whatmough but only if we’re planning to sell Woolfenden. If we’re keeping him I’m not too fussed.

This happens every season - ANOther FC get a player or players in before us and people go into meltdown, even if there's no evidence we were after those same players.

There are 24 teams in this league, so there's always a fair chance one will be out of the blocks before us.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I don't understand how people can't see the cause for concern though. We start pre-season in 9 days time, with just 2 new signings.

Including those 2 new signings, we have about half a dozen players in total that Cook wants to keep, with the rest he has told are up for sale/free to leave. The players that are still left are hardly going to break sweat in pre-season knowing the manager doesn't want them, and then how is Cook meant to implement a style of play with only 6 players?

I know deals etc aren't easy to get over the line, and I'm not necessarily blaming anyone for the lack of signings so far, but a few deals need to be wrapped up and through the door before next weekend.

When PC joined Wigan and they oversaw a change in squad. Pre season started late June.

His signings began filtering through in July August and topped up in Jan.

The first weeks of pre season is fitness so there is no need to panic about next Saturday.

Regarding players left. Again it's there chance to show they want to be part of what we are doing. If they dont then that's on them and they are free to find themselves clubs if their agents can get them moves.

The idea of getting everybody in for pre season is great in theory.

However, it very rarely happens. This is why the end of the transfer window is so busy and they actually broadcast a programme on deadline day.

From the outside it seems as though everything should be tied up. They even tried bringing the window forward before the season started but that was a stretch.

This isn’t just us. This is premier league teams spending hundreds of millions on players that they don’t have at all for pre season.

We just need to be patient unfortunately.

I agree about getting everyone in before pre-season starts, that never normally happens. I think it's just the fact this pre-season is like no other for us in that we've told basically all but a handful of players they're free to leave.

Still, let's see, hopefully we get a few over the line soon.

Alternatively, if the season started tomorrow we would be going into it with a competent and proven manager at this level, a proper coaching team, improves fitness capabilities and much more strategic direction off the field than we've had perhaps ever. We could like up with something like:

Holy
KVY, Woolfy, Toto, Kenlock
Burns, Downes, Evans, Harper, Dobra
Norwood.

Bishop, Jackson, Nolan, Donacien, Hawkins, El Miz, Lankester etc.

Now that's miles off what our side will look like, more will move on, and there's 4 or 5 question marks on a side like that (especially defensively), but it's not panic stations yet. If you listen to some you would be forgiven for thinking we had a squad of 6 players.

We've signed 2 in the past 2 weeks, with a 3rd imminent. The new owners have implemented an awful lot in a short space of time, there's plenty of reasons to believe they'll get in who they need.

Good point.

Our side will look nothing like that come the start of the season. I'm just saying it's not disastrous. I would guess over the next couple of months we'll see about 8 in and a good few of them out too.

It's going to be busy.

Agree normally not so much a problem.. But with PC saying pre season key to embed his style and for fitness and with only keeping 4 ish players from last season then ore season is imminent and potentially only 6 ish players.

....to say "stop panicking the season's not even over yet"

Then: the season has only just finished

Then: it's not even June yet

Then: they are on holiday

Then: the Euros are on

Then: contracts don't start till July

Then: it's not even July yet

Then: pre season hasn't started yet

Then: pre season has only just started

Then: it's not even August yet

Then: the season hasn't even started

Then: we are waiting on loans

Then: the transfer window isn't closed yet

.....than it is to question the lack of signings.

I'm not concerned because:

A) Summer transfer business is usually done in late June and early July, and Covid has made things more chaotic than normal.
B) We are run by some very savvy people who have a track record of doing well in the transfer market
C) Getting Burns and Evans in early probably lulled us into thinking there would be a glut of signings.
D) We have money now, so are more likely to land our targets than under Evans

So when Ashton says we have 5-6 deals in motion right now, you don't believe him?

I take the view with Gamechanger and Ashton/O'Leary that either a giant prank is being played on Ipswich fans and these people have no money and Ashton and O'Leary are body doubles

OR

We take Gamechanger at face value and they want this club, eventually, back in the Premier League and will invest heavily to get us there.
Look at how many new management/coaching staff we've appointed. Some of them lured from Championship clubs.
Do you really think the new owners would spend what is probably a considerable amount of the salaries of these people if they weren't also going to buy players for them to coach/manage?
