Cook's brown nosing of Ashton & owners in every signing interview... 15:31 - Aug 16 with 1585 viewshatch

...is that some intentional psychology to show the fans togetherness?

Seems very polar opposite to his initial concerns when he had a grumpy 48 hours as Evans announced his departure.

I'm not trying to overanalyse it just seems very forced that in the few soundbites put across after each signing he thanks Ashton and the owners. Maybe he's just a nice, grateful guy.

F**k knows what he would be saying if Evans was still here and we was struggling to sign Mansfield's back up left back then.

When you're underperforming in your role, sometimes sucking up to the boss is the only way to save your skin.

are you against fan togetherness?

Is that why you posted this thread, trying to demean our manager?

For what purpose exactly?

He's acknowledging he's been well backed.

There's literally nothing to see here.

Truly impaired.

Don't think it's brown nosing, he's been backed very well. I imagine most managers in League One would be very jealous.

Or he's delighted with the support so he just says it?

Let's face it, buying beer for the fans has already been tried.

You're overanalysing it without trying, then.

It is called being respectful to Ashton and the owners. It also shows to the supporters that we should also be thankful for the work that goes into negotiations and the backing.

It is a pretty amazing turnaround from the evans era!

Most people find publically slagging off their boss the most sensible way to progress in your job.

How odd that Cook doesn't know that. Lambert did.

So instead of the basic curtesy and gratitude he showed in being backed, he should have said Ashton is not a scouser, is rubbish and hated by Bristol City, the Chairman a clueless old fool and the Americans a bunch of happy clapper chancers who’ll be gone the first sign of trouble. Yeah, that’d have helped no end 😃!

Not quite up there with my mate who knocked his boss out in the pub, mind.

I think Ashton has a decent sized ego, and likes to be front and centre of things, Cook realising that and managing upwards with a stroke of that ego now and then is just what needs to be done.

Best managers have to manage up and down

Honest question, Joe, do you recall hearing MM speak well of Evans or Bobby Robson of Cobbold or Burley of Sheepshanks?

This is neither about Ashton's ego nor about Cook's sucking up. It is simply normal behaviour except for when there has been some clear and public falling out.
