Get a new man sorted by the weekend..... on 10:58 - Dec 8 with 2161 views | itfcsuth | Completely agree. Need to get somebody in to give as much time as feasibly possibly, especially before January. Last night I thought Warnock, having slept on it I still prefer the long term strategy of Liam Manning.
Get a new man sorted by the weekend..... on 10:58 - Dec 8 with 2156 views | BseaBlue | I really hoped that McGreal was just a contingency and that they had someone lined up already but that doesn't appear to be the case at the moment. A quick appointment is vital to try and stop the tsunami at the minute!
Get a new man sorted by the weekend..... on 11:00 - Dec 8 with 2131 views | nodge_blue | I think we have to get the right man. if that means longer than the weekend then ok. We could just knee jerk into the next wrong man. I still think Cook was a good manager for this club. Somehow the players he's recruited weren't good enough for his system. Yes thats on him but he might with a couple of new signings got it right in the next window. Now its all up in the air again. New manager by the weekend please. Instant fix. A new manager might not be able to turn around the situation immediately. Think we might have to take something incremental (albeit more consistent than Cook was achieving).

The only thing is, don't you think they should have had some inclining into who they were going to appoint when they decided to sack Cook? I'm hoping they do of course but it doesn't seem that way

They should have, it's just basic planning! Even Marcus Evans used to plan his next move before he sacked his manager. It would be criminal if that hasn't happened.

You've only got to look at the pool available and out of work to not get very excited. And we cant prise away a good manager from a lower league club, cos theres not many lower than us now. Hence Lowe going to Preston. We are in a mess. No one has a clue now how to fix it. Players look confused and rabbits in the headlights. Given how bad we are I think we need an experienced guy right now cos the ship needs steadying fast and a simple plan implemented. Warnock.

I’m in favour of Manning, but seeing how many idiots we had at the game last night does worry me a bit on that front. If we try and play out from the back and there are teething pains the numbskulls are going to make the atmosphere poisonous.

That is true, one of the guys giving a lot of stick, kicking things etc, turned round to his mate and said 'at least ive got a ST at West Ham'. Most of them are part timers tbf

Must remember as well, the real aggressive fans last night looked about 30 people on the first couple of rows. I'm sure all fans were upset, and rightfully voicing some anger, but the really aggressive group looked about 30 at the front. That's just 1% of the whole of the away following we took. It doesn't represent the wider fan base. As I said last night, our fans have been far too good for far too long, and I have no doubts in the whole they will continue to be so.

I agree entirely. Why not have someone lined up ready, especially with 2 big games against Charlton and Wigan coming up. We might as well have left Cook in the seat, what's the point in having McGreal for a few games. You might argue it from a moral perspective, it's not fair to seardch behind Cook's back, but that's life. I'm sure he was speaking to Evans before Lambert got the chop.

Get a new man sorted by the weekend..... on 11:42 - Dec 8 with 1680 views | Tangledupin_Blue | We would like somebody asap but it is more important to get the right person even if it takes longer. IMO that person needs to be exactly like MM and it would help if he had a TC type assistant. First make the team hard to beat; at the moment we are whipping boys. If necessary, grind out results. The pretty football can come later. We would have a chance, still, to make the play-offs this season. If only such a manager was available.

When I heard him talk, and about filtering through applications etc it makes you worry. Even if you don't have someone lined up, you should have a shortlist of at least a type of manager you want to head hunt (whether it is directly to an unemployed man, or through a club) Obviously something may come in that interests you, but we should know exactly the profile of manager we want, and be aware of who can work under the conditions we have here and who can demonstrably prove that.

I didn't say that was the case, just that it felt like it might be with how things were setting up - I didn't think that is necessarily the case even prior to the game last night, but certainly doesn't feel it now

Do we really believe Ashton doesn't already have shortlist and has probably sounded those out already We haven't just sacked Cook and gone "what next?"

It's hard to know what work Ashton has done on this front, but as you say it sounds like we're in the early stages. We should've been 70% of the way to recruiting a replacement IMO, especially with the games coming thick and fast. Makes me wonder if something happened with Cook that meant there was such immediacy to pull the trigger after a draw in the FA Cup. The timing makes no sense to me.

Tend to agree - I expect more solid links / news in the next day or two. Get à manger in, give them a few weeks before transfer window - I can’t see the new board getting rid of Cook completely blind to what next.

The transfer window. Ashton made that clear, they want a man in who can set his own targets before the window opens. Seems to me that McGreal probably has Wigan and Barrow, potentially Sunderland, but given the egos involved, they will want 'their' man in place before they arrive for that game. The alternative, is 4 or 5 nervous looking Americans as they listen to the boo's and to the chanting.
