McKenna- respect- Sir Bob 10:18 - Dec 19 with 3031 views | chrismakin | Saw a post on Friday I think it was, about how KM might struggle to gain respect from players due to age.. I don't agree with that. However, could some older posters share what sort of gent Sir Bobby was when he started... was he a shouty shout manager or just calm, smart and therefor gained respect. Did his age ever come up as a potential problem when he came in?

I have to say, I'm impressed by just how quickly a few of Cook's biggest fans have turned on the new manager, before he has even managed a game. That must be a twtd record?

I don't think anyone has at all, except a few serial trolls. I'm really excited by McKenna, but, Its not unreasonable to have concerns and questions

It's actually more of an issue if a new management team comes in snarling and throwing their weight around (as Hurst and Doig allegedly did). That's far more likely to bring up the "respect for achievements" issue than good coaching where the players can see what's being asked of them and how to improve.

Yes, I think that, 'show us your medals' attitude is a pretty old fashioned way of looking at things. It may well have been around years ago but most of these players are in their twenties and would've spent their whole lives seeing the likes of Wenger and Mourinho having success. I would imagine any of our players trying to come over all Big Time with a guy that was coaching Ronaldo and Pogba last week is going to get put in their place pretty quickly.

Who? I was a big fan of Paul Cook, although could see why people had concerns. I am very much looking forward to seeing how we do under KM and am fully behind his appointment.

indeed. especially as far as the coaching side goes. I would expect McKenna to be very "hands on" on the training ground & he will surely seek the advice of Dyer, McGreal etc as he assesses the Town squad. However, being the manager of a football league team is very different from coaching & obviously no-one knows how McKenna will get on. If he can produce a Town side committed to a certain style of play (but not formation) & & one which plays for 90 minutes & doesn't crumble as son as it conceded. he has a fighting chance. Most pros will initially see a new manager as an opportunity to impress; the trouble comes when some senior pros don't react well to being out of favour. It will also be interesting what he does with the players who will be out of contract in June, although hard to see him deciding on those in a hurry.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes. I can imagine it's incredibly different being the one who directs in training, to suddenly being the one with the office door having to tell players why they are not selected.

May sixth has already stated he will fail, and Keanish reckons he has already lost he dressing room. I absolutely wasn't talking about people like you or chelters here.

So what? Why would the average Town fan know the name of a United first team coach?

My boy knew who he was. I think the youngsters generally know this sort of stuff rather than us more mature posters.
