They’re not performing to the standard expected of a club like Sunderland though. I expect if McKenna fails to take us up next season he’ll be off as well. Cook didn’t get much time under Ashton and Gamechanger did he?

Had we have been 3rd in the League Cook would not have been sacked.

My Mackem mate reckons Johnson is a pure lemon - if we'd even drawn at the SoL in November, the chat was he would've gone - they had just got rinsed by Rotherham and Wednesday, coming into that game.

It's a cliche - but Johnson's got pure David Brent vibes. They're 3rd in the league, for sure, but have had some absolute poundings this season. Ross Stewart has probably kept Johnson in a job for quite a lot longer than he deserves.

Dreadful manager and one who is very prone to heavy defeats / long runs of defeats.

A 0-6 defeat to anyone in this league for a club like Sunderland is always going to leave the manager somewhat vulnerable.

Yeah he’s a wañker but still think it’s harsh considering their position, just a bit late in the day to change. If they were mid table I’d understand but then like you say he would’ve gone ages ago.

They’ve got lucky this season as many have, just shows how shît the league is.

What's really bonkers is sacking him right at the end of a transfer window. No chance for the new man to tweak the squad if he felt it were necessary.

Yeah, some truth in that.

Although, as ITFCForever says, any 6-0 defeat in this league leaves a manager wide open.

As an aside, that Afolayan looks bloody good for Bolton; he took the piss out of us in the 5-2 game.

Yes! They were wavering which means my accumulator was at risk. That hammering yesterday knocked £100 off my cash out alone! It’d be a bitter sweet for me if Cook got appointed and took them up.

3rd in the league makes it quite surprising but I've always thought of him as a poor manager.

No, that's just how big clubs move. If you aren't performing, you're out - simple as that. ITFC fans have become so accustomed to mediocrity and failure that when a club that has ambitions sacks a manager the instant reaction among some part of the fan base it to call it 'harsh'. Same as when Cook was sacked, it wasn't harsh yet quite a vocal minority were aghast that a failing manager could be sacked without giving them more time to fail. Ashton and Gamechanger are a breath of fresh air in that they demand a winning mentality and won't excuse and couch failure as a 'project' like Evans and his puppets did.

No, it’s called having shareholders who are beholden to investors and on the hook to deliver repayments and large sums of money at pre-defined increments. This isn’t a breath of fresh air, it’s the deplorable debacle that football and professional sport has become.

Sunderland sacked Ross when 6th. They brought in Parkinson and dismissed him for Johnson finishing 4th and winning the EFL trophy after finishing 8th the previous season. They’re now 3rd and Johnson has been sacked with a 51% win percentage. So, they’d improved under him and were heading the right way. I don’t particularly like him but how can that sacking be based on “under performing”? Some bad results for sure but come end of season, I expect every team in this division will have been humbled at some point.

Cook should have gone after Bolton stuffed us. He had a little run afterwards that made me think perhaps I was wrong, but it really was clear it was not working at that point. Had we made the change then and made the right appointment, we might have been looking at a probable play-off place and a possible automatic promotion now instead of simply an outside chance of sneaking into the play-offs.

Sunderland expect to be competing for automatic. To drop into probable play-off and at risk of missing out on them would not be good enough for them. As stated above, it is one of a few very poor recent results.

This would look a lot more impressive were it not basically a recycle of why you were upset about Cook getting the sack.

Indeed - and as far as I am aware nobody has yet mentioned how and when The 5% Gang are repaying their loan. Town are already on the slippery slope that Sunderland are on
