Fair play if so. Suggests that he is not fully on board with Putin over the war - which can only be a good thing.

The fact that he has said it is significant in itself though. And I have no reason to believe he'd say it if he had no intention of doing so.

Indeed. The devil will be in the detail of course. For example, I believe the club is in debt to the tune of £1.5BN to a company he owns/part owns. So does this fall within what he says about “loans” or is he just talking about personal loans? If he walks away whiling the slate clean of all debts linked to him in any capacity, he’ll be taking hell of a hit and that’s a lot of money going to Ukrainians. It’s probably significant he’s talking about the war too as it goes against Putin’s dictate on the language used. Makes you wonder why he’s not been more forthcoming in condemning the war before.

I do believe Swiss bank accounts have also been frozen to Russians. It's a first for them to venture out of neutrality.

On the face of it, writing off his debts, selling and donating all "profits" (that is open to interpretation) to victims of the war in Ukraine are all positive things. What you say is probably true as well (not sure how proven it is) and it is highly likely that the next owners will be as bad. However, on the public face if things, Abramovich is opposing Putin ... or is he simply trying to reduce the impact of the probability of Chelsea being removed from him by the Government.

Not how I understand it. Do you have some info on this. The whole basis of the Swiss banking system is not to cooperate with external influences which is what makes it attractive to certain individuals. Though there have been plenty of movements against it over the last 20 years to make it more transparent and accountable. Some more successful than others. They operate as a sort of crypto system before crypto was even invented. Their system has facilitated financing some of the worst people in modern European history to move stolen assets from Countries whilst the people who rightfully should benefit from the money literally stave. If they have facilitated freezing Russian assets it is because they see no other option than to cooperate. There is no ethical stance in Swiss Banking.

I have to say that I read that differently. He states "all victims". That doesn't necessarily mean just Ukrainians. It leaves it open for Russians too.

Agreed, the significance is in saying it, not doing it. It shouldn't go unnoticed back in Russia.

When he says all proceeds will go to victims of the war in Ukraine, doesn't necessarily mean the proceeds will go to Ukraine. He could mean its going to wounded Russian soldiers.as well.

Totally agree. He's back-sliding all over the place, as the corruption at the heart of all this seeps out. Still no damnation from 'Roman' of the war, or of his mafia mate Putin. It is so utterly typical of this Chelsea regime that the scumbag that is John Terry has sent a message to him saying how wonderful he is.

Not surprised at all the comments from Chelsea fans and ex players commending him. Let’s face it without his money (wherever it came from), Chelsea would be where they were previously; - Londons 4th team - also rans - lower gates than most including us Chelsea were a non entity previously. Yes Matthew Harding took them up a notch with his investment…but this Russian money totally distorted Chelsea’s status, and indeed the football landscape …opened the door for others…arguably .not for the best

Not even arguably, IMHO. You look at the misery and suffering of women and children on the news and compare that to Abramovich's 'oh poor me, I love Chelsea so much but I want to do what's right for the club' statement, and you just want to puke.
