I was thinking about any potential re-development of the stadium 14:57 - Mar 31 with 2722 views | Cheltenham_Blue | This morning. We seem to think that the obvious one for re-dev is The Cobbold, but the only place we can really take that is a stand that goes across the road, like at Villa Park or at a couple of others that I can't think of now. Could be that the Pioneer/Britannia/East/CO-OP might be the easiest one with room to develop into, and perhaps thats in the thinking for the parcel of land behind the SAR, a new family zone?

I was thinking about any potential re-development of the stadium on 15:01 - Mar 31 with 2196 views | hype313 | Maybe Phil can confirm, but have there been or are their plans from the ownership to take the car park over from the Council? Also, those 6 houses behind Sir Bob, are they inhabited? Never seen any movement in there or any sign of life.

Incredibly some people who live in Alderman Road choose to drive to and from their property on a Saturday when there is football on after 2pm. Definitely the time to insist on driving along the back of the North Stand. Actually, maybe not 'incredibly'.....

I was thinking about any potential re-development of the stadium on 16:27 - Mar 31 with 2018 views | SheffordBlue | From Ashton's comments about engaging with all stakeholders it sounded to me that although they might have some ideas they might also be open to others. The Council might well be be up for some redevelopment around the car parks/road network as long as they are involved in the decision making and design.

No, and I don't think that will happen. IBC have plans for that, including a multi-storey car park. That was the reason the Beat statue moved from where it was initially planned to go.

Cheers, shame, although it would be an expensive purchase and a lot of land to do something with.

That's very interesting as it seem the so called practice pitch is unused, but would they really want to invest in a new stadium when they don't own the freehold? [Post edited 31 Mar 2022 21:32]

FieldTurf is used all the time by the Community Trust. Needs upgrading though as it's very threadbare as it's about 25 years old.

I get that but it's a massive plot in a prime area for what they are using it for. They could put something at Playford Rd to take on the practice pitch commitments with regards to Community Trust? At the very least it needs developing for multi occupancy use.

Think they want less use of Playford Road. From what Mark Ashton said in the podcast yesterday, they could well have another site the Colchester side of town for the younger academy age group and the Community Trust at some point in the future.

Yes, I saw that. My point though is, the training pitch is quite a lump and could be used for something more useful, it's really quite an asset.

Small point. But your "half our catchment area is the North Sea" quip was superbly placed to try and get his guard down. Thought Ashton was gonna crack under your questioning a couple of points and let slip some facts and figures.

Agree with that and I think MA etc are giving a lot of thought to how it might best be utilised.

I did chuckle at that too. Ashton comes across well, speaks eloquently, very engaging and clearly has a desire to succeed. However, I might be completely out of line, but there is something about him I'm not sold on, and I can't put my finger on it. I've no doubt he has the clubs best interests at heart, but I can't help feeling like he's a snake oil salesman. Obviously more than happy to be proved wrong and I might be being unduly harsh, but it's just a nagging feeling I have. [Post edited 31 Mar 2022 22:05]

Think he just has that has overly polished corporate air about him us everyday scumbags don't really relate to. He certainly loves to use the sort of cliches and phrases that can put your teeth on edge. I suspect as much as he wants to do well here, it's so he does well for himself too. Which is fine I guess. If we are as successful as possible he and all the brass should be too. But I suspect it's the fact that eventually Ipswich will be another job on his CV whereas it's tribal for us innit.

I can’t take any credit for original thought, as our space just reminds me of what Wolves had to work with when then spun their stadium round. It took them years though, but I think they managed to keep playing there throughout. I remember us going there in prob early 90s and it was a very weird place. The left side from the away fans was an old unused wooden stand and a new shiny stand on the right was miles from the pitch as they hadn’t turned the pitch yet. I don’t think Wolves developed around the stand, but we could with a bit of imagination. Kind of like a mini Chelski with shops and flats maybe? Dunno, it would need the demand obviously. I don’t know what pulls people to Portman Road other than the ground and hookers!

I've always wondered If in the far future would there be a desire to flip the pitch round. Bigger. Longer wider pitch. With cobbold becoming the new North stand etc Or keeping the same layout but rebuilding both side stands further back.

Yeah, I remember going to Wolves when either 1 stand or 3 stands were miles from the pitch. I think they got relegated that year and we beat them 3-0.

With the space we've got we could make it huge! Could be a big advantage.
