Do you think he’s a lower league keeper?

Walton on 14:38 - Jul 13 with 3185 views | N2_Blue | we just need the equivalent of Walton at the other end of the pitch. Personally Id have hoped he would be in the door by now. I really don't want another Pigott who never looked settled here and whilst i'm happy with Ladapo signing we need someone else to complement him and Jackson. I don't think its the arsenal loanee.

....he got us to 11th in the 3rd Division last season so currently yes. All we hear is that Walton, Edmundson, Woolfenden, Burns, Morsy, Chaplin, Celina (last year) are all "Championship Standard", yet we were/are pretty crap. Are over half our team really playing in a league below where they should be? I don't think so. If they are, then why are we a mid table 3rd Division team. It don't make sense buh, do it??!!??

I see the logic, but Walton is a very sound keeper. Rarely makes mistakes, handling is very good, seems to be vocal and the defence have looked so much more assured with him behind them. Pretty good with his feet too. On the basis of the team he's playing for, yes, a League 1 goalkeeper. But he has the potential to be a regular first choice Championship keeper if not with us then with someone else.

Jonathan Douglas played 38 games in 15/16 when Ipswich finished 7th in the Championship. Still wasn't Championship quality player. Bialkowski never played in the Premiership but many considered him to be a Premiership standard player, which he probably was considering how he pretty much kept a dire (outside of Lawrence and Mcgoldrick) 16/17 squad in the division single handedly.

Didn't he join us from a Prem team ... so not sure I see him going back as a 10m+ player
Walton on 16:00 - Jul 13 with 2765 views | itfcjoe | Had him already in the building then paid him a lot of money! Only so many GKs in the league can play every week, and outside PL he's prob not far off the top 10 paid keepers. He's a very good GK, and certainly one you'd expect to not need to worry about for the Championship when we go up this season

You are being rather unfair, yes some of those players played the in the system that Cook would not budge from a system that clearly was not working albeit we had a couple of decent results and some attractive football at times but the start killed us and there is no rose tinted glasses about that unless you are a complete muppet which I know you are not. Once KM took over we looked a different team and yes some of our players definitely at times look like they are more than capable of playing at a higher level and I'm sorry you are just lying to yourself if you can't admit that, give KM the full season to do so and he may just change your mind!! Some comments on here can come back to bite people, I think this could you, you may well be faced with "How can a mid table crap team win the 3 division title??....did 4 or 5 new players make that much difference??" Most things make sense when you look at the bigger picture!!

He’s clearly an amazing keeper in every respect innit. Bare in mind Southampton bought Angus Gunn for something like £15m and he’s dross. [Post edited 13 Jul 2022 19:56]

...us (as fans) not getting ahead of ourselves. If we genuinely have an 11 that has 6 or 7 "Championship standard" players we should walk the league. We probably won't. I entirely hope that I'm wrong, but when you are as long in the tooth as me you realise that we hear this every season and it often stems from the fans over estimating the actual ability of the players.

The key is getting a striker (new or existing) that can score 20+ goals this season.

In terms of playing the bulk of their career in the Championship or above, I think the only player who fits that bill is Aluko. I don't think any of our other players has played more than three or fours seasons in the Championship, including Morsy who is 31. So I do think there is a danger of overestimating the ability of our players. Having said that, I think we certainly have the players to get out of the division this season, particularly with McK in charge, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will be easy.

As basic a football insight as I’ve read for a while. Cheers for that. Top reading.
Walton on 02:07 - Jul 14 with 1765 views | BigCommon | I got scoffed at last year around October time, for suggesting that Walton would be the best signing out of our 3 main loan players (Walton, Celina, Bonne). Should we sign any of them. I was very pleased when we signed him permanent. I thought the whole defence looked more relaxed with Walton in goal.. That save at Wycombe, when they had us under the cosh, was incredible.. I think he'd be easily comfortable in The Championship.. And at 26yrs, with our current staff around him. We could well see him improve further. Definitely one of the best keepers in this division. And someone we wouldn't need an immediate upgrade on, should we get promoted. Unlike a few other positions.

Haha Walton is 27 in November, might be worth taking a look at the number of goalkeepers over that age that have transferred for more than £10m in the history of football (it’s about 20) Bearing in mind that Walton will still be residing in the third division at that point of his career, I’d suggest him being worth £10m+ at any point is somewhat fanciful

I already made my point, a keeper that has spent most of his career playing in the third division and still playing there in his late 20’s is not going to suddenly be worth £10m
