Town announce 25k sold, the old capacity conundrum.... 10:59 - Jul 27 with 3256 views | unstableblue | ... so as part of my deranged enthusiasm for Saturday (time to go into some meetings and switch off I feel). I went into the new and improved ITFC ticket site to see how things are selling.... incredible sales when you look at it... there really is only about one block of tickets left, guessing 300-350 in Cobbold upper next to away end. Then its pretty much singles everywhere else. So 1500 at the very max left. I'd say our capacity is 29-29500 thinking about the Sunderland game last season. Consider bolton have sold 750 of 2000, and that you can buy seats right up to last 1 or 2 rows of the Cobbold/Pioneer, so not many restricted views... does make you wonder where the remaining circa 2500 seats are available!? This post confirms I have now gone completely mad in excitement for the season.. and must go and lie down in a darkened room for a few days. I will post a match report... prepare yourselves.. and enjoy the build up my blue brothers and sisters!

Town announce 25k sold, the old capacity conundrum.... on 11:02 - Jul 27 with 3179 views | JackSted | There's a few thousand restricted view seats that are never on sale unless there is an expected sell out. Usually the back 5 rows of the Cobbold and Coop Edit - didn't read your message fully before posting lol. But I assume the restricted view ones make up for more numbers than people think [Post edited 27 Jul 2022 11:04]

Is the work not going to be finished before the start of the season?! That seems very poor planning if seats are unavailable because of the scoreboard installation.

I guess that explains why SAF upper next to the screen has seats available - as they won't be able to see it!

Town announce 25k sold, the old capacity conundrum.... on 11:38 - Jul 27 with 2748 views | xrayspecs | There are about 2000 restricted view seats, mainly in the Cobbold and Coop stands, which have not yet gone on sale. There are a few in the North stand too by the club shop which tend not to go on general sale. Blocks V1, V2 and S have been held for away fans. Capacity is around 2300 but Bolton have sold around 1300 by all accounts. So there is another thousand. Block E is being used as a buffer between home and away fans, so around another 800 seats not in use. Adds up to about 4000 plus the 300 or so tickets remaining in other areas. Capacity is around 30k. Once only single tickets are left, I would imagine club will release the restricted view seats. [Post edited 27 Jul 2022 11:43]

Town announce 25k sold, the old capacity conundrum.... on 14:26 - Jul 27 with 1795 views | ElephantintheRoom | There are thousands of restricted view seats I think there may be quite a few seats that are not generally on sale too. I used to have a season ticket in the west stand with my father in the sold out days of the return to the Prem under Lyall. The seats around us were reserved for Town players family and friends - and often empty

Using these figures makes you wonder if it is possible to do any building work that would enable the restricted view seats to no longer be restricted view. I am not a Engineer or Architect but as opposed to the cost of a new stand this may be a way to "increase" capacity for our march onwards to Champions league football. Also having a whole block as a buffer between home and away fans I am sure that location of away fans to "open up" more home seats is something Mr Ashton is looking into

So, I believe the issue that causes the restricted view, is the the roof supports. Modern stadiums have these externally so it appears to be free floating from the inside. I don't know if you could modify a stand to that effect, the Magnus stand is very old and wasn't built with that in mind so I'd be surprised if it could be done with significant structural modifications.

As Southfields mentions below, most of the RV seats are due to roof support posts. I imagine it would be a very expensive job to put a new roof on those stands, and it is not as though the seats are not used when needed. They are only put on sale once all other seats are sold. We have in the past reduced the size of the buffer zone to sell seats in block E. Just need to have a decent gap and good stewarding. I am not sure there is a viable plan to move away fans to any other part of the ground.

Looks like the club are starting to make the restricted view seats available - there are some now available in all four stands [Post edited 27 Jul 2022 17:38]
