Okay, i'm ignoring tomorrow night, i'm not a fan of the cup personally, but see that it could be important for the squad this season to have a run and stay match fit.

However, a cursory glance at the table sees our next league opponents MK Dons winless in 2.

I noted that they've absolutely dominated possession in both games, playing much like we do (67% against both Sheff Wed and Cambridge) but losing 1-0 in each.

Seems like they're so similar to us in terms of the way they play, but not actually scoring loads, see that Louie Barry has played both games, suspect he'll be keen to impress.

Will definitely require us to be on top form to win that one and I don't think they'll be down there come season end.

I'd be comfortable (not happy...comfortable) with a draw and then to pick up our first 3 wins on the trot afterwards to end the month on 14 points.

Saturday will be a very difficult game, should see a good game of football thought

They have lost some big players. No doubt still a threat but we should absolutely be aiming to take three points from this game.

To have a 7 point gap over them after three games would be great going.

Truly impaired.

I’m a fan of the cups. Not the pizza cup admittedly as it’s tin pot but the league cup is decent. Not beyond the realms of possibility that we could have a bit of a run in it if the draw is kind. Good for revenues and could test us against higher league opposition.

That’s not to say I would go full strength as clearly Saturday is the priority, but I would go pretty strong. Assuming Woolf & Harper are OK:

Hladky
KVY Woolfenden Ndaba Burgess Davis
Ball Harper
Aluko John-Jules
Jackson

Get more minutes into Davis, perhaps the first 45 with Leigh coming on for 2nd half. Definitely get some minutes into Ball even if it’s just the first half. Aluko too.

Probably only Woolfenden and Davis that start from that XI on Saturday for me with Walton, JD, Burns, Edmundson, Evans, Morsy, Chaplin, Harness & Ladapo coming back in.

I know you have to have a degree of luck with the draw to go on a cup run but would be nice to get to the 4th round of the League and FA Cups and meet a Prem team. Will allow us to keep the likes of Humphreys sharp.

Bit of a tricky start for MK - obviously have lost a few big hitters for them and have brought in some more hoping to get near a repeat so maybe a good time to play them while they're adjusting and winless. You'd probably back Wednesday to beat them anyway and Cambridge, as we well know, can be very awkward if they get themselves right up for it and you don't turn up - certainly seem like a team that very much enjoys dishing out bloody noses to the bigger, better clubs in the league. Have to be seeing it as an opportunity for 3 points though, especially at home. Can definitely get at them defensively - if our intensity is right they're there for the taking.

As J2 says be good to open up a gap on the other teams who will (or will want to) be right up there - make them have the pressure of playing catch up.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Good side and too early in the season to judge them really but would be a good win if we can get the points, they are still adjusting to not having twine

Saturday will be a good game for the footballing purists with the ball remaining in play a lot of the time and the ball kept firmly on the grass. A good time to play MK as they appear to be making a slow start to the new season.

I'd like us to have a good run in the cups this season, this nonsense in the past when managers have been too clever putting out weaker sides because the next league game was more important or the priority and then we've ended up losing. Good cup runs can create confidence and a good run of form, so I hope KM puts out a pretty strong side against Colchester rather than one that should be good enough to win the tie.

I agree, and winning is habitual. We have a big enough squad to rotate sensibly but it should always be with a view to winning. I can imagine the training ground will be a better place to be if we’ve won on Tuesday, maybe Jackson has a goal under his belt and his tail up a little bit for example. That can only be a good thing in terms of the atmosphere, maintaining the high standards and healthy level of competition in the group. Winning is contagious and I think there’s more benefit to be had from a cup run feeding league form than detracting from it, especially with our depth. Its been too long as a club that we’ve caught that bug. Would love to see us win 5 or 6 on the trot.

It'll be interesting to see how our high press effects how they handle the game. They do like to spray the ball about... but as we found against Bolton first half, it's not that easy when you are pressed and are rushed into passes.

I’d go as strong as possible, our record in cup games with reserve team players is probably the worst in Europe if not the world, we’ve barely won a game in the league cup. Winning breeds winning. Wholesale changes and I can see us losing.

A win on Saturday and I think we could class it as a flying start to the season..
Our first 3 games looked really tricky to me. Two of the fancied sides and a newly promoted team in their first home game. Not a particularly kind set of fixtures.
Think MKD are under a bit of early pressure. And we look sharp. I can see us pressing them into a mistake or two. 3 pts please.

How old are you? Cup games have provided some of best and worst days/nights in the club’s history.

Granted league cup games are pretty grim if both teams are trying to lose - which might well be the case tonight. But you can’t blame ‘cups’ it’s the cynical approach of clubs and Town have been amongst the worst at mysteriously ignoring the opportunity provided by cup runs whilst delaying their own history

MK Dons are playing the same way without most of last seasons goals. Guess what they aren’t scoring so many goals. They could struggle quite badly this season

Before he got his injury the talk was he was getting training in a couple of positions. LWB being one of them.

Seeing as we now have Davis, Leigh AND Penny there, I wonder if he might fit as the left sided 10 too.
