Harness’s goal looked fine to me 18:50 - Aug 27 with 2594 viewsthebooks

from the NS lower: he just looked stronger than the defender. The way he celebrated it indicated he didn’t have any doubt it was perfectly legal as well.

Still, I do wish we wouldn’t bemoan the referee whenever anything bad happens. Evans clearly handballed for the free kick that led to the first Barnsley goal, yet the “shît referee” chants started.

Apart from that it was a really good match. Barnsley outthought us in the first half by getting three narrow forwards to press and by hitting long balls into the corners. We really pushed in the second half. Their keeper made 2 brilliant saves.

2-2 was frustrating, but if we keep attacking like that, and showing patience against the decent teams (which Barnsley were, I thought), we’ll be fine.

I’d start KVY and Harness every time, but we have so many quality options.

Oh yeah, one more annoyance: the dude behind me kept slagging Ladapo off and then gave James drinkdriving Norwood a standing ovation when he came on.

I’d have to look back at the Evans one but to me it looked like his arms were down by his side, he got a shove in the back and the ball hit the top of his arm/shoulder. Would never get a pen for that so shouldn’t be a free kick either. Still, once it’s given we have to defend far far better than that. We’ve not looked great at dealing with balls into the box for a while now, expect Keogh will be getting a start soon.

Barnsley came to try and do a job and in some respects executed their plan but they weren’t good.

Indeed, being the ‘least crap’ of our opponents so far is very different from actually being good. But in any case I would give that accolade to Bolton.

Evans didn't handball for the freekick. It hit him, unintentionally, with arm in natural position.

They created too many clear openings for a side that average though. Letting them in behind and set piece defending needs addressing but as I said earlier, 8 out of 10 times we win that game. Well, probably 9.

That's not the way it works.

Yes you think we would win 10 out of 10! Unfortunately outside factors don’t always work out like that.

I was sideways on to the "goal" and guessed that it was disallowed for a shirt pull but having seen several different angles now I'm not at all convinced.

Goal for me.

Hate blaming the ref, but he cost us 3 points today.

Nothing from the lino. And not a single protest from a Barnsley player.

Seems to me from his position, which must have been about 50 yards away, he saw the striker suddenly move past the defender and had a guess that the defender was pulled back.

You're right about it being a perfectly good goal however the rest of the post I'd disagree with. We weren't out thought they sat very deep and compacted the midfield with their front 3. I was sat lower north and how you can say it was clearly handball i dont know, however 9 out of 10 times the ref gives us the freekick for the shove on Evans as he's trying to control it. Ladapo has produced exactly what i was concerned about at the start of the season, he puts a shift in but he's not a prolific, we may as well have Jordan Roberts up top. We need a striker without doubt if we want to ensure we get out of this league. KVY - i can only imagine you haven't seen him play for 2 years? No chance he should be in the starting 11.
