Kebab inflation 13:54 - Sep 14 with 3790 views | giant_stow | Bought my first one for a while last night and it cost £9.50!!!! Nothing fancy - just a bog standard kebab from a local shop - is this normal? Distressing either way.

This was a large CHicken Donna - no special grilling required. I swear they used to cost a fiver tops.

Kebab inflation on 14:05 - Sep 14 with 2524 views | leitrimblue | That's a very worrying development Ull,s. I think I pay€8:50 for a very good shish kebab from my local. I'm surprised the kebab price index isn't used more frequently as a barometer of inflation etc

It shocked me to my core, mr. Glad you're paying mor reasonable prices and yes, this should be everyone's favored measure of inflation.

They should give you at least a quid back for all the salad you have to throw in the bin.

Apparently she was a big fan of the large donor with everything and extra chili sauce. That's what she would've wanted

For a doner? Blimey, that's up there with my £11.50 fish & chips. I haven't had one of those for years and know it's fashionable to remind people how rubbish they are but I quite like a doner kebab. In future mate you're going to have to make your own kebabs at home; for that money I'm sure you could knock up some nice prime chunks alternated on skewers with some colourful sweet peppers, red onion and cherry tomatoes. Some large wraps, some chili sauce and/or minted yoghurt and you're well away.

I've never understood why Kebabs are so looked down on - to me, they're so tasty! You're right about home kebabs.

Guthers posted man out in the wilds somewhere making some proper stuff. I'll have a look later unless he sees this and reposts it.

Kebab inflation on 17:32 - Sep 14 with 2199 views | Churchman | I was at Lords yesterday and after a restorative or two, the only way to go was a large elephants leg (incl salad, pitta and chilli sauce) and small chips. £11.00. Plenty for me and the misses. Job done. But yes, prices have gone up.

Fish price hasn’t moved a great deal recently for us, we get in fresh haddock for our f & c. It varies but I’d say maybe 10% up in the last few months - chicken for Ulla’s kebab has risen by about 1/3 in price.

My haddock and chips was £11.50 from a van. A van I say! Not to be confused with somewhere like your pad which I understand will be restaurant prices because it's a flipping restaurant. But a van. Did I mention it was £11.50?

Nah, not after a few beers it isn’t. Nothing else comes close. There’s that feeling of anticipation as you approach the kebab shop, leg gently rotating in front of that comforting grill. The first decision is whether the elephants leg is plump enough. Last thing you want is the grisly bit off the stick or the stuff that’s been sweating in the can for hours.. Second consideration is the alternative - usually the minced meat one. Always a good back up but large or small? Third - large or small chips? Usually small, but alcohol can sometimes modify the words. Finally, it all comes together and you’re good to go. For me, that 6 minute walk (or totter) is one of happiness, but can I resist starting on the chips? Not always. A kebab is a rare event for me, but despite their despicable reputation, it’s a guilty pleasure.

I have only ever fallen over through too much drink on one occasion and that was because it was dark on the way home and I took a short cut across a large car park by the bus station in Bury. I didn't realise the rows have a low kerb separating them and tripped forwards over one of those. I'd been in the Grapes for a few hours and grabbed a kebab from the place next door and started eating it like a heathen en route. I went down quite hard and actually hurt myself a bit but somehow managed to keep my kebab well out of it. Held aloft triumphantly by one hand as I fell I never lost so much as a loose chili off the top. I remember feeling quite pleased with myself. [Post edited 14 Sep 2022 19:57]
