Even the people they're trying to appeal to use this language hey? What's it take for a government to admit they have no mandate or hold no confidence from *anyone* and call it quits? Will their own backbenchers bring them down even?

Still come what may, they and their mates in the 1% category will be absolutely fine.

Time for a general strike. The government are openly displaying their utter disdain for the British workers.

Tractordownsouth's thread on freezing public sector wages suggests that's got to be a strong possibility, assuming the markets don't slap the govt out of this insanity first.

don't know about that, but remember that most tory mps didn't vote for truss. currency crisis, more imported inflation, even higher interest rates, a winter crisis in the nhs, and the election ticking nearer isn't going to make them a happy or compliant bunch. truss really is going to re-enact the siege mentality of the early thatcher years.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have added the word 'strong'!

It's all looking a bit grim(er) for sure.

Pretty impressive performance by the Truss and KamiKwazi. I thought they at least last a month before they screwed up in such colossal fashion.

We might be finally reaching peak Brexit soon.

It's been awful and he's considering even more tax cuts with the view to implement them soon.

Markets are pricing in 4% interest rates by November and 6% by the summer. That's going to lead to a lot of mortgage defaults for those already stretched with other expenditure and not on a fixed rate.

Someone with a 250k mortgage at a rate of 2.5% would pay 1100 per month but at 7 or 8% it's going to be 2000 per month.

I know, this could be grim on top of everything else. I am just so relieved I took a 5 year fixed rate deal last year: be screwed if I hadn't.

I read in FT earlier that over £1bn of the £2.5bn cut in income tax of the 45% rate goes to a group of 2,500 people who earn over £3.25m per annum.
