Holland. Used to live next to a Dutch chap. Every tournament, he would deck the outside of his house in orange and had HOLLAND written on the flags. Probably like yourself, it's an age thing.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

"Do not use when you mean the Netherlands (of which it is a region), with the exception of the Dutch football team, which is conventionally known as Holland"

I know Dutch people who refer to their country as Holland when speaking English. Two of them are Frans and Arnold, so debate over.

The great Dutch teams were always called Holland. The teams that lost to Germany in 74 and Argentina in 78 were brilliant. Not that brilliant obviously .

Gotta say Phillip baby.............
My feelings are that they call it Netherlands but just say Holland when in company of Brits and that's just to be polite.
Can't count my Holland trips up but the first time I went was in UEFA Cup final and to this day I really don't know - probably about 70 now.
Arguably the saddest thing is that every time I have been I have just gone to Amsterdam, sorry, I just love the place, I mean, what's not to like. I really want to go to Haarlem, I've tried so many times but I can't get off the train!
*** Thinking about it, I have been to Rotterdam a couple of times - I remember this now because I was a kid and I was doing what the tourists do and I was with this beautiful bird and I was doing my absolute very best and her bloody wig fell off.
After all the messy business she wanted 75 Guilders but I only had a bit of Sterling and she questioned the currency situation - to be honest she didn't know jack sh1t and she probably got a fiver.
Now then - you might rip me apart but who got the bad deal?
She gave me genital warts, and let me tell you, they are a Mlotherfecker. They have to burn them off on a weekly basis with this liquid acid sh1t******.
******Apologies to younger newly effected genital warts sufferers but I'm sure things have moved on somewhat.
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”

Looking at T shirts, flags, the Dutch people I’ve met over the years and what you’ve said about Arnold and Frans, I don’t think they’re bothered either way.
I gather that technically, Netherlands consists of twelve provinces of which two are Holland. All I know is that I’ve always enjoyed my visits to the country, like and respect the people. Fantastic footballers and those orange shirts have always stood out
Bring back the tango kit!
