Footballs banned in the fanzone 15:49 - Nov 22 with 2018 views | itfc_bucks | Apparently someone got hurt by a stray ball in the fanzone and now kids aren't going to be allowed to play football in the fanzone any more. This seems a gross overreaction. For those twits on here who tweet, can you please ask the club to think again on this one? [Post edited 22 Nov 2022 15:49]

Footballs banned in the fanzone on 15:53 - Nov 22 with 1957 views | SheffordBlue | For a lot of this stuff I think people do better emailing the Head of Supporter Engagement Scott Paul rather than tweeting the club. I've had responses fairly quickly from him. scott.paul@itfc.co.uk

Footballs banned in the fanzone on 15:53 - Nov 22 with 1957 views | nodge_blue | I'm not totally surprised. When there's about 10 kick abouts going on amongst several hundred other people not paying attention, something is bound to happen at some stage. [Post edited 22 Nov 2022 15:54]

And Alderman Road Rec isn't exactly far away. It's a PIA trying to avoid footballs while carrying beers across the pitch.

Just need to set up a little area where it’s allowed.

Footballs banned in the fanzone on 16:00 - Nov 22 with 1878 views | hype313 | Been like that for ages, people were getting annoyed with balls flying around spilling their pints/coffee's etc. Still plenty of options for kids to have a kick abut though with all the inflatables.

Thanks for that - I'll do so, that's actually a really useful contact!
Footballs banned in the fanzone on 16:11 - Nov 22 with 1798 views | clive_baker | I think the issue is if you actively make something allowed, you then open up a responsibility to make sure it's not going to result in anyone getting hurt and there's various implications of that. I'm a bit 'old school' when it comes to this stuff and honestly think just crack on, let the kids have a kick about. But I can see where the club is coming from by way of litigation etc. I think the best way is to have something official in there, run a shooting drill or something between 1:30 - 2:30 and let kids take part within different age groups. You would need the appropriate level of recommended staff e.g. 1 coach : 8 kids (varies depending on age) but that's probably the best way to do it properly. Never know, might even spot some talent in there. The easiest thing though is to just publish something announcing its banned to cover your backs and then not police it too hard.

It was actually "The Facters Incident" (reenacted below) which caused the ban. [Post edited 22 Nov 2022 16:14]

They do do a shooting drill, plus other things like kick the ball at the inflatable dart board and speedometer. But kids just want a good old fashioned kick about don’t they, could set a little area aside with some sort of fencing and rotate through people.

The Speedometer thing is pony. I do agree, kids just want to run around rather than queue up. Need to drop a note to JJB, see how they got away with that cage and zero supervision from staff. TWTD.

You've polished off your burger and strawberry milkshake upstairs in McDonalds, perused the NBA Puffa jackets in WestWorld Sports that you had no intention of buying, and now it's time to head to JJB. The smell of sportswear and new trainers, the sense of excitement as those escalators took you down into JJB. Absolute scenes. Might even have time to pop into Wahoo before the bus home comes. Well you don't take darts when you watch a dart competition or a snooker cue when you watch the snooker. You're going to watch football. Not play it. If you wanna kick a ball about. Use the green opposite.

Fair shout. Perhaps followed by a visit to HMV to put those headphones on and listen to a few new toons.

I've only been out on the sauce and for dinner, not been to Ipswich for a shopping trip in many a year. Some good pubs still, waterfront area is smart, some nice places to eat too. Retail I think is dying on its arse but that's true of a lot of high streets. The Buttermarket is more entertainment / restaurants / bars destination now rather than shops. Bowling & cinema in there etc.

Used to love a weekly visit to the the town shop in the buttermarket. Always seemed a wasted building that one Went to waterfront a while back. Definitely alot nicer than when I lived in the town. Lots of work been done there it seems. But that mention of JJB certainly brings the memories home

Wait what? You can’t take darts to darts either?! Since when? First someone gets told off by the lefty brigade for “racism” after blacking up as Dianne Abbot and now this! Next you’ll be telling me we need Goggles to play Conkers…
