I just watched the 0-4 Portsmouth highlights from last year and I still think Bonne would be a good signing for 6 month loan spell. A player that has scored goals for us and would be 100% committed to the cause. I can't see top quality strikers coming in this window.
One of McKenna's qualities is that he always focuses on what a player can do rather than what he can't. Im sure he could coax a good six months out of Bonne.
On a different subject, I thought we were excellent Boxing Day. I think that first 11 should give us real optimism for the remainder of the season.
Certainly won't weaken us will he. Ahadme is a project, I like the cut of his jib personally, he's a bit of a throwback but he's got a decent touch, works hard, a physical presence and can bully defences. I quite like him, but in an ideal world he would probably have a loan spell where he'll play 90 minutes week in week out at this stage.
Jackson is Jackson, I don't see him as much more than a squad player, again his attitude can't be questioned, works hard, has pace, but he's not a player I see leading the line in this system and I don't think he has enough quality with his final ball or decision making in wide areas. We're a bit fooked if Ladapo gets injured, certainly need another out and out forward option to take some of the load.
On the last part that starting 11 is definitely our best 11. Keep those fit and available for the majority of the season and we will be OK. In terms of additions. We need another midfielder to be added. I'd be happy with Luongo if he's fit. Another striker might not hurt especially if we loan out Ahadme. I wouldn't mind Bonne but he isn't my main hope. JCH for me.
McKenna had Bonne for six months near enough last season and it didn’t work. From McKennas comments last season the only striker he really rated then was Jackson, who we gave a new contract too.
If he wanted Bonne we would have made a move in the summer window. I have no idea who our striker target for January is but I’d put money on it that it is not Bonne!

Think that's probably true. As you say McKenna barely used Bonne when he had him so it would be somewhat surprising if he's now a serious candidate.

I can't see us going for JCH and I don't think Ahadme will be loaned out either (can't he only go back to Burton if he did go anywhere anyway?)
Aside from that, I agree with all you say. It will be interesting who we do get in (assuming we do get someone).

Have been told there are no plans for him to return.
Personally I want to see the owners really show their inte t and give Ashton whatever funds needed to go get Whittaker.
Taking him and weakening one of our rivals should be a top priority.
Whittaker who has a lower goal conversion rate than Ladapo and has scored one more goal despite having 50% more shots?
Isn't your criticism of Ladapo that he should score more goals? Doesn't sound like Whittaker is the answer there.
As for weakening a rival it's just people thinking of Marcus Stewart. It was lightning in a bottle. We certainly shouldn't be using 'whatever funds needed' to take a player from Plymouth for the sake of it.
On paper, if he's fully fit, Wickham would be a much better option.

It's not about replacing ladapo, we need 2 for that top position whilst also having a mind of the league above.
I haven't been critical of Freddie quite the opposite considering I was also the one who felt Freddie should have been a KM target in the summer.
What I do feel is we don't at present have anyone to rotate with Ladapo..
I don't understand the desire for Wickham personally. Been in right place right time for goals definitely. But he doesn't put the work in like the others imo.

Whittaker isn't an either / or for Ladapo. Should we ever find ourselves with both in our squad I think it's far more likely both play. He's not a #9, he would be more competition for Chaplin / Harness as a number 10 than Ladapo.
I would have him here in a heartbeat, he's class, but he wouldn't solve that problem.

I think it does in a slightly different way.
Like JJ who could play different roles.. he would still offer more than say Jackson. I can't really comment on Ahadme as I don't really know what sort of player he is.
Not asked about him. I think Evan Ferguson is one we will probably move for, but I expect other clubs to be interested as well.
You are clearly in the know more Phil, but from what I’ve just googled he’s 18 and only 2 appearances. It would seem a loan that isn’t anywhere near guaranteed to be a big boost.
I obviously have never seen him play but do you think that’s who the club fancy?

I'd normally be really dubious about an 18 year old coming in (from a physicality perspective) but from clips I've seen he looks a proper brute. Reminds me a lot of Wickham when he came through here - built like a man. McKenna obviously thinks so too if we are as keen as you've heard!

I think TJJ is very different to Whittaker. TJJ sees himself as a #9, certainly did when he was at Blackpool and while he's played in both positions for us he's got the ability to lead the line relatively effectively. Whittaker isn't a player you want on the ball with his back to goal. He's tended to play wider / deeper, off a more conventional #9 like Cosgrove or Hardie. He's so dangerous in that #10 'hole'.
Equally talking about chances converted between Ladapo and Whittaker isn't a fair comparison, so many of Whittakers chances and goals are screamers from outside the box.

I know they're very interested in him, Sam Williams has been to watch him. Not impossible we could move for two strikers, of course. In the summer we were after another senior striker with George Hirst and Will Keane having been targeted and since then we've lost Tyreece John-Jules for another couple of months at best, so could well be we'd look for another senior man and someone to come in for John-Jules.
Having said that, I would guess we'd probably be after just the one. In the summer we paid £1m plus for a left-back with under 20 first-team appearances, so KMc has shown that he has courage in his convictions when it comes to signing young, inexperienced players.

Yes, I can see the similarities. For me, number nine is the area we've been most wanting from the start of the season and they will have been disappointed not to have landed Hirst or Keane in the summer. Ahadme has proved one more for development rather than to be a regular starter at the moment.

Shall we just do the sensible thing and buy whittaker. Wickham and 1 other. ;) cover all basis :)

If we bought Whittaker I would be absolutely buzzing. 2 from Chaplin, Harness, Whittaker in those #10 positions would be a joke at this level. Burns right, Davis bombing down the left. Morsy and Evans in the middle. Still need 1 head to take the load off Ladapo, maybe this Brighton lad on loan.
Aluko, Humphries, Edwards, Ahadme, Jackson offering the additional rotation. Camara too eventually.

That is no normal 18 yo for anyone doubting his too young. A beast. Is it a loan or permanent you think here Phil.

He's had Bonne for 6 months, clearly didn't fancy him. He wasn't really first choice neither did KM look to keep him.
This seems to be totally forgotten in the Bonne narrative and replaced with "KM could improve him".
