Plymouth make 5th signing of the window on 20:24 - Jan 9 with 5531 views | pointofblue | Feels like a Whittaker replacement. Recalled from a loan at Bradford. Not sure what kind of club upsets someone who’s on loan from a promotion chasing team and signs them themselves…

They did the same with Saxon Earley, recalled from a loan at Stevenage who are 2nd in League 2.

Recalled him Earley? He’s a very good player btw, bit annoyed about that one. Really surprised Norwich sold him. [Post edited 9 Jan 2023 21:06]

Plymouth make 5th signing of the window on 20:43 - Jan 9 with 5034 views | Dubtractor | Slightly odd transfer business from Plymouth for the January window - seems like they have signed a number of promising players, but players more likely to have an impact in the longer term than right now. All players if signed in the Summer you'd think were good bits of business to develop with the team, but possibly not players for an immediate impact?

Matete will be superb for them. Will be fireworks with Morsy again. Morsy needs to keep his head big time. I reckon Waine will be a surprise package for them. Not convinced about this lad they have just signed Vs Whittaker. They have Azaz back training now. It's a bit of a mix I reckon, but yes certainly some of them will impact in future. Good window for them. Whether it will be enough for them time will tell .

Plymouth make 5th signing of the window on 20:58 - Jan 9 with 4652 views | Westcountryblue | I think they've recruited quite well actually. Obviously, they don't have the financial muscle to try and lure established Championship players, but they've sold a project to young and upcoming League One and Two players. A well run club with a good manager, i hope Sheff Wed are the ones to miss out.

Yep, this basically. We can't recruit established pros on large salaries very easily, not just financially, but also for geographical reasons. The ones we do have (Edwards, James Wilson), they are Bristolians so Plymouth is I guess fairly local to them. I think we're trying to nip some young players before their value really shoots up and therefore flood our books with talented assets. Reading the fans' forums of the clubs we've just pinched these players from, the general sentiment is that they are gutted. Even many Sunderland fans felt that Matete was worth a pop in the Championship. It's a lot of signings but our recruitment is very very good. Matete is more than ready. The other 4 lads will at the very least give us some depth and options. This new lad Wright, is a ROI U21 International. The squad looks far stronger now. And the number 19 shirt still remains free ... ;-). Who knows.. [Post edited 9 Jan 2023 21:09]

It’s good long term recruitment though. Azaz and Mumba won’t be there next year so bedding players in now to play a bit-part role for the next 6 months and then be first team regulars next season makes sense.

I haven't seen them there in the last few weeks, but James Wilson must still live in Ipswich as he see his wife and kid at the gym quite a lot, and if Plymouth haven't got a Saturday game he is usually there with him as well. Plymouth are certainly striking whilst iron is hot and making some good recruitment - but with budgets they ahve it is very much with one eye on being eoither a lower end Champ or top end L1 club next season as you'd expect. We are able to push boat out to recruit as a Champ club......but we have 7 points to overturn which isn't going to be easy.....even if Plymouth fall away a bit it's very unlikely they get less than 88-89 points which is going to be very hard to take if that isn't enough for the top 2

Im not sure where this expectation comes from with Plymouth falling away. As you say, even if they do reduce their average points haul for the second half of the season, they will end up with a significant amount of points. If we lose on Saturday we'll be 10 points behind with Derby minimum 9 points behind us with a game in hand. Saturday is absolutely massive for us, Plymouth have enough of a cushion to play the game with much less fear.

We need to win 13-14 of our last 21 games and then we'll go up - whilst Saturday is massive that doesn't change that If 2 of those wins happen vs Plymouth and Sheff Weds it will help ease our heart rates and stress levels but won't change much!
