I suspect both, but yes the culture war angle works nicely for them. The trouble is, you can’t ignore stuff like this, which might be tactic that works in other instances. This is an egregious attack on our human rights. People have to stand up to it and call it out for what it is. | |

I've seen it uncropped and fail to see how it makes it better, quite the opposite.
What context could be good enough to be making jokes at a place like that? Regardless of it's to save Rwandan embarrassment or propaganda, the whole thing is a departure from decency and British values.

It’s circulating un-cropped and there’s also film of the trip. And remember this is all staged with their supportive ‘journalists’, so it’s hardly difficult to see what the context is.
It’s also an irrelevant point and a distraction. It’s unlikely she’s literally laughing at the thought of deporting asylum seekers, but it does work nicely to summarise the apparent glee she can’t withhold when talking about doing things the probably break international law and will cause harm and distress to genuine refugees. ‘Culture war’ was appropriate in the context of Mullets post and my reply. We were talking about whether this trip is designed to appeal to their base, wind up the opposition or both. We weren’t talking about the policy itself.
