Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! 22:50 - May 8 with 9596 views | eddiespearitt03 | A really blue day for many. I see the police and parking wardens out in force . A day spoilt for many people. Felt sad for all the Ipswich people who got a parking ticket. Nearly every car in Park Road and all the surrounding streets got a parking ticket. The only people allowed to park in the park were blue badge holders. Why organize an event for 10.000+ people and provide no parking facility ? Who were co sponsors of this event ? ( Ipswich Borough Council ) Bank Holiday Monday . Plenty of parking enforcers on overtime. [Post edited 8 May 2023 22:56]

I can assure you the people who those areas are thankful the parking restrictions are in place, if there’s a yellow line don’t park there. Simple.

I think you can still park on a single yellow lines during the day on Bank Holidays, so nobody should have got a ticket for that reason.
Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 23:16 - May 8 with 5369 views | madmouse1959 | It was not parking a car for a football match. I'm sure I remember car parking in the park for the annual " music in the park".

You definitely can’t in Ipswich. All parking restrictions apply unless it’s a before 8am and after 6pm, and all day Sunday is fine. People always park in the residents spots and inevitably get tickets as well, which means people can’t then park outside their house. If your able bodied you’ve got no excuse to not find a proper spot and walk.

I noticed you did not answer the question. There should have been some parking in the park.

If you read back your post you didn’t ask a question. There is very rarely parking provided in Christchurch park, last few music days I’m aware of there is little to none. If people had just parked where they normally would in town if you were going to a game or going shopping or whatever , they wouldn’t have got parking tickets. Why should today be any different.

You’d have thought they might’ve changed the restrictions or even ‘turned a blind eye’. The fact that the parking wardens would’ve known it was happening and would’ve just been waiting to pounce, licking their lips. A free event the council said, paid for with all the parking tickets

Used to be the case! The restrictions seem to have changed in Ipswich lately, all new signs up, used to be able to park in most places (single yellows) for free after 6 but recently changed to after 8pm.

Not saying I agree with the rules - but why should us football fans be treated differently?

I can’t believe the amount of people siding with the council on this, they’ve put on an event for 1000’s of people and can’t even change the restrictions or turn a blind eye for a few hours, how convenient that the traffic warden(s) was there at that time and not the other side of town. They knew it was going to happen.

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 07:28 - May 9 with 4641 views | xrayspecs | Why should the council provide parking and/or waive parking restrictions? Fans can easily park in the many town centre car parks and walk to the park.

Loads of parking in town, the usual catering facilities in the park were open and they brought in extra loos. It’s not that hard to park legally.

So you’d have been happy if this was outside of your house or next to your driveway then?

With local councils strapped for cash it is inevitable that Monday would have been the opposite of turning blind eye.

Why should the council turn a blind eye because people can’t be bothered to walk a bit further? Those with blue badges can park on yellow lines. There’s plenty of provision for parking in town, but heaven forbid you have to walk more than 5 minutes. It wasn’t just the yellow lines, people had parked in the residents bays all around the Christchurch area, so we couldn’t park near our houses.

A note on the Blue Badge - It isn't so cut and dry anymore. One has to really be sure of the signs as my old dear was ticketed on a single yellow around that area before.

... and that's kind of the point, isn't it? Bit of a weird juxtaposition between putting on a free event in the park, and then having your parking wardens descend in force in the streets around said park, to ticket as many cars as possible (on a bank holiday, for a 2 hour period). Yes, all the drivers are very naughty, and I'm sure that they will carefully consider the error of their ways going forwards - but people have rightly seen this as a pretty cynical money-grab on the part of the council. Knowing that thousands of people were descending on the park, the council *could* have put a few signs up on Park Rd, reminding everyone that parking restrictions were in force... Anyway. We're promoted. Uppa Towun.

Yep, pathetic from the Council - there are certain things they are happy to turn a blind eye to because they know it gives them so much grief to ticket it and this should have been one of them Especially when it was single yellow lines and people not always aware of the discrepancy between a Sunday/Bank Holiday. If they were doing people on double yellows or in residents zones then that's more understandable and harder to turn a blind eye to. But single yellow lines on a BH Monday - give me a break

Ignorance of the law has never been a valid defence, nor should it be. If we were to play a home game on Easter Monday, would the 25,000+ in attendance choose to park as inconsiderately as some of those attending the event in the park yesterday chose to? Would there be the same level of opprobrium if parking fines had been issued in those circumstances?
