Some things never get easier 17:07 - Jul 15 with 2182 views | gtsb1966 | Not the first time I've had to have a dog put to sleep and I had to do it again this morning with my 12 year old staffie/ Collie cross. Even though you know it is the right thing to do it hurts every time doesn't it. Dogs are such great companions. That's why it's so hard to say goodbye.

Some things never get easier on 17:27 - Jul 15 with 2061 views | Ftnfwest | Lost our first dog (I’m 57)yesterday and it’s totally heartbreaking especially when Teddy was not quite 6. He’d fractured a disk and over the course of Thursday/Friday lost all movement in his rear half. We ended up at one of those supervet place’s yesterday who laid it on the line for us, he was severely paralysed but could be successfully operated on (70% chance) but would have then been convalescing for 2-3 months which in fairness on us would have been incredibly difficult to do, and wouldn’t have been the same dog let’s face it. Was a cocker spaniel and I think accident happened a few months ago when he slid off back seat of the car when I braked and gradually got worse until something else happened Thursday maybe. Haven’t blubbed as much for years, you feel cheated out of years of his life but for him rather than yourself. We have to remember that he had 6 fantastic years. But ultimately you have to remember that they are animals and spending thousands keeping them going at a lesser quality of life isn’t fair and you’d only be doing for yourself. Doesn’t make any of it easier and feel your pain. It’ll get better I’m sure but we’ll leave it a while before getting another.

Some things never get easier on 18:37 - Jul 15 with 1915 views | Lord_Lucan | Had one of my two put down a couple of months ago, awful stuff. Our other one has only seem to have come to terms with it. He has been moping around all confused for ages. It's a bastard.

She's another kid almost,. I'm not sentimental with humans, but dogs get me every time. Thoughts to you mate. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and I'm also sorry to hear about the OP's experience. Accidents can happen (to us all) at any time, so I hope you don't blame yourself.

Some things never get easier on 20:12 - Jul 15 with 1754 views | Westover | I've had to do the same thing 4 times now so unlikely we will have any more, they are soon part of the family and it is terrible when you lose them, all I can say is think of all the good times you had with your dog it does help.

Very hard to be selfless in those circumstances. From my experience I try to be guided by the advice of the professionals and always do what’s right for the animal, not what’s right for us selfishly. Very hard to do though. Sorry to hear of yours and the OP’s loss, a horrible thing to deal with. Cherish the good memories and always serves as a reminder of how special our pets are. About to take my dog on a walk and I’ll let her sniff that extra blade of grass and try not to resent how blinking slow she is now on walks. Won’t be here forever bless her. All the best.
Some things never get easier on 21:38 - Jul 15 with 1642 views | Ryorry | Huge sympathies to you, and all others who've been, or are about to go through, that most heartbreaking situation. Lost my old boy last November and there's still a mutt shaped hole in my heart where he was. These thoughts (don't know who the author is) are the epitome of daft soppiness, but get me every time - https://themindcircle.com/this-is-why-dogs-never-die/?fbclid=IwAR2FZ1CzwfuiRm2ht

Had to say goodbye to my golden retriever nearly 3 weeks ago and am missing her terribly so know how bloody awful you must be feeling now. Cherish the memories of all the wonderful times you had.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |
