"Driscoll’s case has drawn backing from other Labour mayors, Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram, who accused the party of being undemocratic, opaque and unfair. Their intervention came after the trade union Unite said Labour’s national executive committee had made a “major error” in blocking Driscoll’s candidacy, which it said was motivated by his support for the renationalisation of utilities."

Indeed. Good luck to Driscoll who has been treated appallingly.
Perhaps a full on split from Labour by anybody/unions etc with a different vision for the country is needed. Imagine a tory/labour coalition to cling on to power, might finally wake some up!

Currently on one side there’s a bunch of mad Brexit loons in power and on the other there’s a bunch of Tory Lites that make Tony Blair look far-left. It really is a poor state of affairs.
Think I’m done with whatever Labour stand for - or don’t - and see what the Green Party have to offer. From a quick peek earlier today I think I quite like what they stand for.

He said he would stand if he raised £25,000 by the end of August. At present (only a few hours after the appeal began) he has raised over £62,000.

Asked where he would find workers to support his campaign, Driscoll said: “The Labour party has expelled thousands of people already and many have left, but there are also many people out there from community groups who are not in parties. There really is a huge groundswell of support out there, which has surprised me.”

The Greens stand for whatever you want. In Suffolk it is a big NO to house building. The ones I have met are mostly closet Tories without a clue about much, as seen in Brighton, other than a need to wheedle their way into power, as in Scotland.
Unfortunately, as things stand both major parties appear to be doing their level best to avoid being elected. The Tories through loony rightieness and incompetence - Labour through Starmers apparent fear that any mention of the stuff the country is crying out for, will hand the next GE to the Tories.
Maybe next Thursdays Bye Bye elections will convince him just how much the Tories are currently loathed. i expected hundreds of thousands of Tories will hold their nose and put a cross against the candidate who can rid the country of this vile pestilence. Others will make the same choice, for the same reasons.
The idea that looking at what the party's say is rather like planning your day based on what the horoscope says in that morning's paper.
This in favour of PR already know this, as a coalition government will always see promises ditched. A very convenient tool as well. We would have liked to house the poor but that had to be dropped as part of the coalition. There is the no small point that under PR, partys will put up stuff with the sole intention of trading it off. A Tory MP said the free vote on fox hunting was in there to be traded off as May came very close to a coalition in 2017.
So as it stands Labour look set for a landslide at the next GE. Apportion the seats out in PR. It will not make the slightest difference, only to demonstrate to the numpties how worthless their bleats has been.
As long as bills are passed on a majority basis, then it matters little who opposes, or how many oppose. There is not some simply formula that handicaps MPs so it somehow amounts to it being 'more fair'. It is as much as in a game of poker - you cannot fix things so both, or all, players win.
What can be done is remove those who not there for what voters imagine they are there for. Clean out those on the make/take and things will improve dramatically.

A lot if anonymous donors. Probably funnelled from TOry HQ. 😂😂😂😂😂What a fantastic way to split the Labour vote.
More likely Labour members not wanting to identify themselves.
And there is little doubt he would have raised the money anyway, given that many more than 100,000 people have left the party in the last three years, including 3 people I know none of whom were Corbynites.

His rants about PR are genuinely unhinged. I don't think he's ever taken on board a single counter argument that's been put to him either, it's like he's stuck on repeat.

There’s a lot of disatisfaction in the party at the moment – including in Ipswich – that isn’t really anything to do with Corbynites, a lot of whom have left have left anyway. Unfortunately, Starmer has expunged any opposition in positions of power.

That's my feeling too, although I am no longer active to gauge the mood of the local party. But certainly it seems to be very thin on the ground when it comes to office holders and campaigning, something in complete contrast to the equivalent period before Blair won power.

I wasn't being entirely serious about the Tory party donations.
However, you must admit that all this will do is damage Labour's chance of winning the Mayoral election.
Regarding Driscoll. There was a lot of sympathy for him sharing a platform with Ken Loach as although he did technically break party rules by sharing a platform with somebody expelled from the Labour party, his defence was that this was non political and merely a talk about films.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and.....
Laura Alvarez, Corbyn's wife and leading member of the Organise Corbyn Inspired Socialist Alliance group, which has discussed standing MPs against the Labour Party following the ban on the Jezziah standing for Labour at the next election.
Ken Loach (Again). Expelled from Labour after Holocaust inversion, tropes about a lobby controlling media and politics, claims Jews exploit the Holocaust for political ends and being an apologist from a number of groups prescribed by the Labour party.
The Absolute Boy himself, Jeremy Corbyn. Suspended by the Labour party for controversial remarks he made when the EHRC published a damning report on Labour antisemitism under his leadership.

Whilst it may have an impact on the Mayoral election, I am not sure it will have much wider impact, apart from for political anoraks like you and me.
After all, Ken Livingston becoming London mayor (a much higher profile role) as an independent didn't appear to damage Tony Blair. Indeed, Livingstone was eventually brought into the fold, and stood as a Labour candidate in 2004.
The real damage to Labour appears to be Starmer's own self-inflected damage.

the real damage was done by the Corbyn punt. One of the worst defeats ever should have set Labour back for years - the fact they're in contention to win the next GE is a minor miracle.

I think it's more to do with all-round disappointment with the mess the tories have got us in rather then Kier Starmer winning over the electorate. I think the general mood is "Anyone but the Tories".

If Labour can’t be Labour and stand on the sides of workers, the poor and the helpless at this time then there’s no “minor miracle” at all.
It’s entirely predictable that Capitalism’s B team has been given the softest of rides even with the benefit of a total Tory meltdown.

I really do see your point, but Corbyn had two cracks at it and failed miserably, so if what you call the B team is all that left, so be it. i'd take that over the talentless corrupt and broken Tories.
