That block was empty for the Cardiff game, but not put on sale to home fans, presumably because we didn't sell out

Yeah, we’d pretty much sold out at the start of the week. I got the last seat without a restricted view on Tuesday. There have been a few more released since then - just the odd few though. Ridiculous levels of support these days.

The problem that Blackburn have is that the town is too near Manchester and Liverpool, so many people in the area support those teams.

Can’t recall it ever being done. Fair play to the club trying to do everything to get more home supporters in and maximise attendance

Yeah, don't think it's been done before. Didn't think it was allowed due to shared concourses etc, but to be fair I'm not familiar with the Cobbold layout as I've never sat in that stand before.

They did that for the FA Cup tie against Blackburn in 1996 as they had sold so few tickets then as well, despite being Premier League champions at the time. Only time I've sat in the away end at Portman Road.

I sat there for the Torpedo Moscow game - memorable as some of their fans were kicked out for fighting each other after having a goal disallowed.

Correct. Similar sized Town to Ipswich but with Bolton, Bury, Preston, Accrington and Burnley close by and not to mention The Merseyside teams and the Mancs. Split loyalties tomorrow in our household. Me and the kids will be in the SAR and the wife and the Father in Law will be with the Away fans as they’re from Blackburn.

Didn’t it get done for Exeter last season? And every time we’ve had a sell out with poor away attendance? Must have been done when we played Wigan on a Monday night at Christmas in 2004?

Around 1998 (think it was then) I brought tickets for the Bolton playoff match (the one which we lost) and I decided to have a wander around the ground and sat in the away end. Not sure whether it’s still possible to just wander round the ground now. It stated to piss it down and so I just sat in the away end, having a fag and reading a book. If anyone cares it was ‘I Am Legend’. Rock n Roll. Only time I’ve sat in those seats.

The population is 120k. That’s their Lord really with all the other clubs around so in relation to catchment their crowds are pretty good. As a place, I hope it’s improved on the last time I went about 20 years ago. It was a right dump.

Changing tack slightly, when it comes to small towns and winning major trophies, Town take some beating. Burnley is smaller and has won the top division, and Blackburn is on a par, but I don't think there are any other towns smaller than Ipswich to have won the league. And when it comes to European trophies, Ipswich are the third smallest to have won one. We have certainly punched above our weight. [Post edited 23 Sep 2023 8:45]
