We all know how difficult it is to do business in January - still very little has happened in the Championship so far this window. I do think that we will sign one or two tomorrow.
That said, the approach we are taking is the right one. Ashton, at Brizzle, was oft accused of buying players and simply adding them to the squad. Under KM, this is not happening and rightly so, either Ashton has learnt or KM is clear on this.
I like the fact that it appears they are working together, KM is very very clear on the type of player (as much character as ability) and Ashton is clear we are working as best we can with a budget that is probably mid table'ish.
Yes, the temptation, certainly from some fans, is to simply sign someone, anyone but I am delighted those days are gone.
I think we also need to remember a couple of other things, it's rare a club will always get their main or even second target, for lots of reasons, often outside their control - this is usual. The other is we are second, still, in this division.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see a senior striker in but I trust both Ashton and KM to do this right, they've earnt and deserve that from us.

True as this may be (and I’m sure we’ll end up with someone in tomorrow), if you look at the list of top scorers in the league this season, there aren’t really any new signings other than Piroe at Leeds and Wright at Coventry - they cost the best part of £25m between them. All together there must have been £50m+ spent on forwards this year in our league and it’s hard to say that many have been a roaring success.
I think we are in a position now where just getting anyone in for 6 months is more important than not given our position, but I don’t feel our lack of activity before this window has been particularly found out in the form book. |  | | |

There is an obsession with getting a clone of George Hirst. Seriously unlikely to happen. As McKenna said himself last Monday after the game, we've lost 3 strikers. We've got 1 in so far (that has big potential but has never played in the Championship). It's a numbers game and we really aren't in a position to be too picky right now, we need an able, half experienced body as much as anything. |  | | |

I don't really understand the constant whining from some posters. I'm pretty confident that the owners and managers of the club are aware that we are currently 2nd in the championship, they are also aware that this is a great opportunity to get promoted to the premiership.
Fortunately they also are smart enough to realise you just can't snap your fingers, throw your toys out of the pram, cry tears and just sign who you want.
I suspect signing players is hugely complex. All the pieces have to fall into place in order to even get the right player on board.
Maybe take a back seat and realise that every supporter, all the management team, and especially the owners, all want premiership football.
It's just that some people understand the complexities and the frustrations involved, better than others. | | | |

Sorry I’ve got that wrong, I should have said in the summer (as the previous two we got in strikers)
However I’m not convinced Hirst was our first choice option in the summer.
I don’t mind if others are happy with the strike force we are to end the season with… but personally think we are short, and that’ll likely be our downfall and see us drop away from the automatic spot.
(That said, I’d obviously take the playoffs, but it’s then a lottery) | |
