Strange wording. You can’t choose to leave a position by mutual consent. It takes two to choose that. The wording sort of suggests that the club isn’t that disappointed he’s leaving.

I wasn't massively impressed with him when he did an interview a while back to be honest

Done him dirty with the ‘mutual consent’ bit. Wonder if we’ve got anyone lined up yet, it’s a great role for someone given the upward trajectory of the club / academy / future training facilities etc.

Academy Manager Dean Wright leaving on 13:01 - Jun 13 with 4390 views | Pinewoodblue | Don’t think it would be unreasonable to say that results achieved by the academy do not match the clubs ambition. Very disappointing that we recently lost an academy player to Manchester United. There doesn’t appear to be a regular flow of academy players ready to make it in the first team, which is what we need going forward. Cat 1 will help but only with the right leadership.* Edit *Pun was unintentional. [Post edited 13 Jun 2024 13:03]

If Man Utd push hard enough for a player and they are keen to go, we aren't ever going to be able to stop them.

More and more of it happening now, last year there were masses of transfers at U16 level (including us losing Callum Logan to Spurs), most of it between cat 1 academies. This year it has got younger, and will be ~30 U14s moving between academies as parents know it is much easier to pull them now rather than sign a pre-scholarship

The only way to stop them leaving is to progress as a club.

We've lost players to Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd in the past few years. There nothing we can do about it. Realistically, those players should be seen as academy successes, as much as a player making it to the first team.

Most of the transfers seem to be relatively unsuccessful, but I can see how the kids / parents cant turn them down.

Right chaps, new Cat 1 plan: Step 1: Get Cat 1 Step 2: Go and get all the Suffolk youngster back off of Norwich City Step 3: Go and get all the Norfolk youngsters off of Norwich City Step 4: Go and clear out Cambridgeshire Step 5: Go and raid West Ham Step 6: Go after Arsenal and Tottenham

I think the big thing is that it gives them more opportunities further down the line and if it doesn't work for them, they are falling from a higher start point. If you are on the books of Man Utd, you get better loan opportunities than you would at Ipswich. And clubs will always give you a chance off the back of being at a top academy. Look at Charlie Brown - got a move to MK, it didn't work. Got another chance at Cheltenham, didn't work. He's now at Morecambe in L2. The path way from 'failing' here is generally straight to non-league.

I suppose another school of thought is, at least we are losing players to top PL clubs…. Not that I go looking for info from “ that lot up the road”, but can’t say I’ve seen it happening to them re their academy players …. Has it it, anyone know ?

They lost a couple to Chelsea, including that Alex Matos who was at Hudds last year There are more transfers between Cat 1 clubs than Cat 2 into Cat 1, mainly because most talent is in the Cat 1 system already

Impossible to know really. They would have been our players most likely to make a first team break through.

100% this. My boy had to join the scum set up as there wasn't one at ipswich at the time. The pain and suffering of seeing him play in those colours.

Since there were three budgies in the most recent England U20 starting eleven I guess they are doing something right. Time for our Academy to move on.

In the meantime, Charlie Brown and his family have earnt more money than they would ever have done otherwise. Not quite set for life, but a massive help along the way.
