Very good speech. It got slightly dusty in here, although that's probably in part because I'm knackered!

Sure it is going to be a nice easy peachy five years for Kier Starmer. Going to be great fun when he welcomes Trump for a visit.

I concur with this. Very much against the socialists, but it's your turn now. Conduct yourself with dignity and a touch of class and people will back you. Don't line your own pockets like the previous incumbents.

This version of the Labour party can't legitimately be called socialists. Agree with the rest of it though.

The current Labour Party is the most right I think I've ever seen it. Hardly socialist.

Nice bit of pre-judgement there. I doubt they will do anything like that in this parliament, particularly not with Reform being the reason why the conservatives lost big. They have to much other stuff to do anyway,

The vote share is an important point though. Looks like Labour's share is actually around 34% and yet they have this huge majority. That and tactical voting are two huge red flags for first past the post.

I think some perspective needs to be put on this - essentially Labours vote is pretty much the same as 2019, they haven't actually done anything (and haven't needed to) to win Reform have helped by splitting the Tory vote and some tactical voting has got Liberals elected in other seats ..... I don't get all the people say how great Starmer has done and what a great campaign he's run - hes actually run a p1ss poor campaign in my opinion and i, like many others voted for him because there literally wasn't anyone else, yeah he should be happy he's won but lets be honest the conservatives were so bad Labour could have had Gary Glitter as leader and won last night - the hard work starts now to prove all us voters who have taken a leap of faith in him that he deserved it.

What was the point of the campaign for Labour? What was their target? Did they underperform, meet or overperform against their targets? Therefore, was it a 'p155 poor campaign?

I did say 'in my opinion' - you're entitled to disagree Labour achieved their targets but in terms of votes and % of the vote they didn't do any better than they did 5 years ago .... which indicates they didn't win because they were good they won because the opposition was really bad. they've essentially stood still and everyone around them has dropped - thats like winning promotion because someone else got beaten ... yeah you're s till promoted, you've still won but IMO a hollow victory

I think you mis-understand me In terms of votes and % of the vote they have stood still and the conservatives have dropped. In that sense Labour are no more popular than they were 5 years ago, the conservatives are just massively unpopular !

Labour have won by a landslide, so your opinion that Starmer fought a 'p155 poor campaign' is clearly nonsense. They could've put themselves out there more, been bolder in their policies... and done worse because of providing more ammunition to their opposition/the press etc. They didn't because they didn't need to... and a landslide win proves that was the absolutely correct thing to do, as many of us have been saying all along. If you want a football analogy... they only needed a draw so why bust a gut taking risks that could backfire on them?

it's a matter of opinion and you're entitled to disagree but what i've said is not 'clearly nonsense' at all - they were up against literally the worst government this country has ever seen and have hardly managed to improve their vote share barely at all. That tells me that Voters were not impressed by his campaign and they've won because the Conservatives were dreadful and unelectable not because he offered anything in his campaign that sold himself to the electorate. Like i said Labour could have had Gary Glitter as leader and won last night - thats how much he had it in the bag and he couldn't improve things .... so yes he should enjoy the victory and make as good as a job of it as he can but in 5 years if the Tories reinvent themselves sufficiently that majority could easily fall away because he hasn't gained any additional support He went to the polls with a beaten Government, not much else in the way of alternatives and hasn't gained any additional votes ...... What i mean by that is His vote share stayed the same, the conservative vote was split between the Lib Dems and reform, and yes he didn't have to do anything, he's as you say 'played for a draw' but thats what Big mick used to do and look how unpopular that became very quickly !!

I think you could say they have run a poor campaign for inspiring voters, and yet a brilliant tactical campaign for getting the vote out where they need it.

You've essentially just repeated yourself so there's not much more I can add, other than whether his majority falls away or increases depends entirely on what happens in the next 5 years. NOW is when the work starts. They'll be judged on results (or at least direction of movement). "I've been carrying this vase around, I'm not going to start juggling it now" some commentator just said Starmer said to him. It's not like Mick because he didn't win anything. It's more like McKenna turning round a mid table League 1 team, getting them promoted and then you saying, "yeah but we didn't win the title." Who cares? Onwards and upwards. There's nothing hollow about it. Another point - if Reform didn't exist their votes wouldn't automatically go to the Tories. "Not quite I what I wanted" would've been a fair opinion. "Pi55 poor" is clearly nonsense.
