If their interest is genuine then of all clubs we can't really bemoan a player going from Hull to a champions league side.

I dont understand the reasons for villas interest. I don't see it being beneficial other than financially for philogene so if he does go there then it could be a terrible move for him.

Either way. Its still nice to miss out to a championsleague side rather than Portsmouth

Another theory is he was always going back to villa, but in order for that to happen they needed to establish what the market value was.

Which is why his agent has been doing what he has been doing

£12m isn't bad price for a decent squad player for a Champions League side

Yeah O'Rourke is legit, unfortunately. Although he did say this morning we were in "pole position" so Philogene's agent could still be dicking about trying to squeeze more money out of us.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Its NOT £12m. I know you are trying to account for them discounting the 30% sell on, but thats false accounting.

Assuming the price we agreed was £16m, and that Hull paid Villa £5m last year. That's an uplift in 'value' of £11m.

30% of £11m is £3.3m

So, Villa pay Hull a £12.7m net transfer fee in 'cash'.

However, if JP had signed for Ipswich, Villa would have made £3.3m by doing nothing.

So, although they 'pay' £12.7m, the actual 'cost' is still £16m (including opportunity cost).

Is that a new development, or the terms that were agreed last summer as part of the buy-back provisions?

If we've offered better terms than were agreed between him and Villa last year, then the previously-agreed terms may as well be ripped up and thrown in the bin.

Yes, it's champions league squad player v premier league 1st team player

Villa are probably favourites, but it would be weird having left Villa for first team football opportunities to go back there 12 month later.

We've done all we can.

Weird maybe, but wages are a big factor. Villa will most likely offer bigger wages than us, which will probably seal it

Tell him to sign in the next hour or we are withdrawing. If he wants to play Carabao Cup for Villa so be it.

Not sure we have, have we? Just simply Villa have matched our bid and his personal terms were agreed last summer when they sold him.

Simply down to the player now and what he feels is best for his development. That’s how I’ve read the situation today anyway.
