If I was buying a house or a car and it was that much hassle yes, Time to walk they won't get that amount from anyone else, And they will be stuck with a resentful person,
I expect that he will sign for us tomorrow, in a £10m deal, incl. bonuses. Now of course he is a good player & will be a fine addition to our squad, but once we get over the relief of the 3 week+ standoff being over & having him in the door, the reality will hit that he is not going to be one of our key signings this summer, nor one of our main players during the upcoming season. We will still need to bring in a top centre forward, a top left wing forward & most crucially of all, a top central/holding midfielder (and another midfielder). Is Sammie Szmodics going to be in our starting XI when everyone is fit & available? Possibly; but if he is, I would suggest that we have probably missed out on fleshing out the squad to the level the the manager wanted. To me, he would be one of the 4 forwards coming on in the 60th-70th minute to replace Omari or Odobert/Clarke (hopefully).
If it is true that they state a price, we agree and then they raise it again that's not cricket old boy (or in this case football). Blue Monday said if it drags on much longer maybe Szmodics should start kicking up a fuss. In truth this isn't doing anyone any favours. The player is not getting the necessary training coming up to a new season. Ipswich can't integrate the player into their style.

You obviously haven't gone through the ridiculous process of buying a house in Ireland!!! (Which I currently am doing)
On average it takes 11 weeks over here to go sale agreed to close.
Was supposed to close tomorrow, but after taking out house insurance last week, waiting for 5 days for the policy docs to arrive....plus two calls to the insurance company today and I still don't have a valid letter of Indemnity.
Anyway back to the thread, we don't know all the details but if close to agreement would be silly to walk away after all the effort, if SS is a top target for us.

The player and his agent DID kick up a fuss in a 'heated' meeting with Rovers people last week. I'm hoping we're focussed on other key positions because they are equally important, if not more so, and if we can and do walk away we leave Rovers with a deeply pissed off footballer.
I think its harsh to accuse someone of "wetting the bed" over a perfectly goos question.
I think the problem is that we've seemingly spent so long trying to work on this Szmodics deal that walking away would leave us with egg on our face - unless of course we sign someone as equally as good if not better.
My worry is that if the reports are true and that Blackburn set a price for him, and then moved it when we agreed that price - why are we still dealing with them when Mr Ashton has said we wont be held to ransom over transfer fees.
Ashton & McKenna obviously rate Szmodics enough to carry on negotiations this long, so unfortunately as someone else said - all we can do as fans is sit back and wait.
As the days pass I do wonder if Virgil Van Dijk is quaking in his boots at potentially facing Ladapo on the 17th!
What does "walking away" look like really? We might well have told Blackburn that our last offer was our final offer.
Are we supposed to put out a press release to tell everyone that?
Indeed. We can still talk to other clubs, players and agents. If we manage to find another player for his position and can get the deal done we simply pull the plug on SS and Blackburn are left with an unhappy player and no money in the bank. More fool them for dicking us about.
I'd trust Ashton and McKenna to know when over some bed wetters on a football forum
As near as I can tell, no deal has been consummated as of now, so McKenna and Ashton might yet end up in the same soiled sheets.
Anyone can get a deal done by paying over the odds. I don’t see the point in insulting those that find more depth to the debate than a default to blind faith.
If we are close on the valuation/deal structure then no - he's a target that we want and I personally think a really good target, think he is a brilliant player and his versatility across a number of positions is also important.
Is it dragging on a bit, yes it does feel like it - but as a long as there is a contingency plan in the background then there is no need to walk away.
