Early days I know but a very productive summer - far more incoming to Portman Road than I expected. Fascinating to see he how they all shape up but Jack Clarke could be an absolute gem.

Phillips. I genuinely believe if we can get the Leeds version he will be the difference to us staying in the Prem. 31 caps for England, I get a tingle every time I think about it.

Greaves, think he is most likely to develop into a dependable Premier league player.

Phillips for me too. We’ve looked a bit overrun in midfield against Liverpool and Man City. I think he and Morsy will be quite a formidable duo

Hutchinson.

He's already shown he can play with the big boys. As he plays more games and as he works with those around him I think we gave a potential Palmer type player in our team.

a niche perspective

I agree, whilst he's not going to be as exciting as our new forward players he is going to be absolutely pivotal for our survival this season.,
We haven't had a player of his real calibre for decades

This. Plus for reasons I can’t quite explain I like seeing foreign (inter)nationals playing for Ipswich.

Szmodics

I am thinking Szmodics but the fact there are at least 6 equally exciting ones is very promising. If any one doesn't live up to billing, it is far less of an impact in this scenario. If all 7 do, we are going to be in for a very good season!

Phillips, Cajuste and bargain signing Szomdics. Ok we've seen what SS can do, I really wanted to get his deal done as he has the clinical finishing touch and will score goals even in the EPL.

Still think we need an experienced no. 9....

However to answer the OP directly, KP....nothing against Morsy and Mass but on form KP is different class.

When they all click in a couple of months, & we see the Premier League version of the League One & Championship team where everyone has bought into McKenna's methods & tactics, with sweeping moves from back to front, neat interplay & goals galore.

Not just 31 caps for England, but he was the most important player in the side in many of them.

But also Omari, obviously. When we signed him I thought "That's the marquee signing. It'll be mostly freebies and punts after this."

Instead we have signed Omari, and then Szmodics, Delap and Clarke- four of the most exciting attacking players in the Championship last season. And we came close to signing Philogene!

Delap. Really interested to see what he will be like by the end of the season. Like Omari last season (and this) he has so much potential.

Poor old Townsend.

Very forgettable - but understandable- signing.

Never know.... could be used more often than we think as a sub to shore things for those streaky 1-0 wins.

Don’t you mean John O’Rourke? - the mercenary that was brought in to get Ipswich Town over the line in 1968.

Edit: the mercenary bought for £30,000 by the ‘family club’. Stayed until Nov 69 when he refused to train at the family club under Robson. Flogged to Coventry for £80,000.

You have spelt "to close out the clean sheet in our 3-0 wins" wrong at the end there!

But didn't the franchise also buy all of them? Or is it ok for the owners to spend their money on signing new players in the EFL, just not the EPL?

The best signing that Ashton has made in the last couple of months was the first.

Multiple. Delap already looks a player and his schooling and reputation he had at City suggests he could have a very high ceiling in the right environment. Cajuste is a Sweden international, Phillips not long back was one of the first names on the England team sheet, Clarke is a very good player to watch and will bring creativity on the left. Greaves has started well, I thought against Liverpool especially he was absolutely superb and as a young left sided central defender he has so much opportunity not just for us but potentially well beyond that.

And Omari is probably the pick of the bunch given he's looked very bright these first 2 weeks against top opposition. He's absolutely a premier league player and a very good one at that IMO.

We've recruited really well, now its over to KM and his team to mould this squad into a high functioning team. It wont happen overnight but McKenna has a history of making sure the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, and that's particularly exciting now we've upgraded a lot of the parts.
